A big well done to Jamari Cousins and Terrika Wright for their amazing performance tonight. Along with Isaac and Samson Wright and more than 40 other cast members of young singers, actors and dancers, they wowed their 150 strong audience at the My Place centre. The children all attend the Habbit Factory club on a weekly basis and have been working hard to put on a brilliant show. The unique performance, a medley of popular Disney films given a festive twist, has been a project in the making for the past 4 months! Their hard work certainly paid off and they deserve a well earned rest! Well done to those children!

Jack
and the Beanstalk 100 word CHALLENGE!
Frantically, Jack walked towards his aged,
dented house, which was not admired by the villagers. Rapidly Jacks mum entered
the room and glared at Jack in instant frustration. She told him to go and sell
Daisy, but don’t take less than £100.
Jack sold Daisy to a creepy overgrown man, who was selling 2 delicate
beans. His mother decided to grab the magical beans and chucked them out the
window. Moments later an extravagant
beanstalk grew. Jack’s mum told him to climb the gravity-defying beanstalk. Suddenly
he saw a giant, so he grabbed the gold and became an instant millionaire.

Winner of Year 5 & 6 Writing Challenge
Well done to Kailen Davey, the winner of this week's Writing Challenge. Kailen wrote a fantastic balanced argument for "Should school children have to wear a school uniform?"
This week's challenge is to write a descriptive piece about your favourite part of this term. Was it the trip to the Museum of Childhood? The Jack and the Beanstalk play? Or maybe the inter-house football competition? Entries must be handed in by Friday 13th December at lunchtime.
Year 5&6 homework Week 14
Please find below the homework expectations for all children in Year 5 and 6.
Spellings
This week's spellings are listed below. In addition to this, children will receive a hard copy either in their spelling book or on paper. All children are expected to rehearse their spellings for 15 minutes each night. This should be recorded on their sheet or in their spelling book. For an extra merit, children should put their spellings into sentences. Children will have a spelling test in their classes on Friday, when they should present their spelling book to their teacher.
Reading
Children should read at home (preferably to an adult) every night for at least 15 minutes. They should record this in their reading record book with an adult signature. Children can read their school reading book, but if a different text is being read at home then this could substitute the school reading book for some of the allocated homework reading time.
Multiplication Tables
This week, the children will be recapping their 8 times tables. Please ensure that children are rehearsing both the multiplication and inverse division facts for these tables. They should do this for 15 minutes each night. Children will have additional time in their classes for this. The times tables test will be on Friday in children's maths lessons.
Additional Homework
As well as the expectations for homework, some children have also produced projects on a topic of their choice. These are still fine to continue with and bring into school. Children that do this can earn a Project Superstar certificate at the end of the half term.
Extra Maths homework can be accessed via the MyMaths website. Should you require the login details for this, please contact your child's class teacher.
There is also a Writing Challenge especially created for Years 5 and 6. We encourage all children to take part. The challenge is distributed on a Tuesday and entries expected to be deposited into the tray outside Maple and Elm's classrooms by Friday afternoon. A winner is picked on a Friday based on meeting the criteria of the challenge. The winner receives a £5 Argos voucher, all entrants receive a small prize.

Boys Leading Writing Challenge!
Well done to Joe Faust, this week's Year 5 and 6 writing challenge winner. He successfully wrote his way to a win with his clever use of evidence to support his points in his persuasive letter to Eric Munday; asking him to review the plans for our old building.

Year 5 & 6 Writing Challenge winner Week 11
Last week our year 5 and 6 children were given a writing challenge. Their challenge was to write a blog explaining last week's Anti-Bullying week activities.
Though there wasn't as many entries as last week, the writing was of an impeccable standard.
Our lucky writing winner this week is Kingsley Onwuegbuzie. He used a range of exciting vocabulary and sentence openers to grasp his reader's attention. Great work Kingsley! He is now the proud owner of a £5 Argos voucher- the perfect prize as Christmas draws ever closer.
Stay tuned for this week's challenge where we will be looking for another brilliant Year 5 or 6 writing winner.

Willow's Sharing Assembly
A big well done to Willow for their brilliant sharing assembly this morning. They shared lots of information about their World War 2 topic, including their diary writing from the point of view of an evacuee and their knowledge about rationing and the experiences of local children during that time.
The children also shared their persuasive writing, inviting tourists to come to the brilliant attractions in London.
In addition to this, they shared their excellent knowledge of 2D and 3D shapes in maths, their Guernica-inspired artwork and their scientific awareness of how to keep the human heart healthy (complete with healthy eating rap!)
Great job, Willow! And a big thank you to all of the parents and carers that attended their assembly.

Year 5 & 6 Writing Challenge Week 11
Here is this week's writing challenge for Years 5 and 6. We had an amazing amount of entrants last week, let's see if we can get even more this week!
Harold Hill Locality Spelling Bee
Each year we are extremely grateful to Drapers Academy for hosting
the Harold Hill Locality Spelling Bee. This is the third year that the spelling
bee has been running and the competition is fierce!
To ensure that we have the best team possible, take the
crown and win the title of the ‘The best spellers on the hill!’ we are holding
round one of the school based competition at the end of this term.
The in house spelling bee will be held in classes and the
winners from each class will go forward to the whole school competition in the
summer term. This is the round that will decide the winning team, who will represent
the school at the locality spelling bee.
If you are good speller with a memory like a steel trap and
you would like to win a kindle, then we need you!

Writing Challenge Winner Week 10
Last week, our Year 5 and 6 children were challenged to write a letter to our local mayor, inviting her to our Winter Performance in December.
We had lots of avid writers accept the challenge this week, but sadly there can only be one winner.
Congratulations to Dylan Houlston, who used an exceptional range of powerful vocabulary and differing sentence structures in order to persuade the mayor to attend. He also used rhetorical questions! Well done to Dylan, who is the proud winner of a £5 Argos voucher and well done of course to all of last week's entrants.
This week's challenge will be displayed tomorrow and a winner announced next Monday.
Could you be this week's lucky winner?

Microbe Madness
Our year 5 and 6 children have been busy in science lessons this week. They have been finding out about three different types of microbes- bacteria, fungi and viruses. They were challenged to design their own microbe using play dough based on what they had found out about existing ones. They had to try to explain what type of microbe they had made and whether or not it was harmful to humans.
Look at their brilliant results!
Photos of Children in Need and Philippines Fundraising
Here are some photos of the brilliant fundraising that we have done in school this week. Originally we had planned to just raise money for Children in Need, but we have decided that as we have several families in school that have been affected by the disaster in the Philippines, that we will donate a proportion of our profits towards helping those worst affected in that part of the world.
A massive thank you once again to all that contributed. A huge thank you as well to Mrs Marchant and Mrs Stallard, who have made sure that our cakes were truly delicious! Our grand total was a staggering £311.46!
Fantastic fundraising everyone!
