OPAL 20.10.23

 OPAL- Outdoor Play and Learning

Amazing Autumn

What a fantastic half term we have had.

Here is a reminder of all of the ways in which we have enjoyed our OPAL resources.

We have found many resourceful ways in which to use our wooden pallets.

We have set up sand kitchens with many masterpieces being created.

We have intorudced a tidy up song so that all our resources can be looked after.

We have shown resilience in the rain as the weather has started to change.

We have continued being Dynamic Risk assessors to keep everybody safe.

As always we would appreciate any more resources you could add to our collection. So, do think of us if you are having a clear out. The items we are looking for will enable us to enjoy a wider range of play experiences during playtime (see below for some examples):

  • Bread crates
  • Cable drums
  • Metal/plastic pots and pans
  • Range of plastic utensils.
  • Guttering
  • Dressing up clothes
  • Blankets (to add to our den building)
  • Small World toys (Dinosaurs, cars etc..)
  • Scooters
  • Deck chairs/ camping chairs (all sizes)
  • Outdoor cushions

Please take any donations to the school office.

Persistent with PE

This half term in P.E Year 5 have been persistent with developing their physical (and mental) health with their P.E classes. Lime class has enjoyed visiting the local swimming people and getting to improve their swimming skills and abilities. Meanwhile, Oak and Almond classes have been improving their team work and individual skills to become even better football players. We had initially started our lessons working on our dribbling and the different types of dribbling, eventually improving our control over the ball.
During our P.E lessons we have used a couple of our 4R's such as resilience - by trying something different for those who were hesitant at first, reciprocity- by taking it in turns and sharing the ball to allow everyone a chance and resourcefulness - when we use our knowledge to choose a strategy to allow a victory.

Lime Class

"Swimming has been great fun. I have loved learning new skills."Kindah, Lime

Oak Class

"It was great learning football in PE, I scored twice and now I feel more confident when it is break and lunch." -Meerab, Oak

Almond Class

"It was amazing to play football in PE and enjoy it." - Darcie, Almond

Cross Country Week

 Cross Country Week

Last week, the children at Broadford Primary School took part in 'Virtual Cross Country Week.' There were a range of activities that different classes participated in including: seeing how far we could run in one minute, completing the daily mile during break time, designing a pair of running trainers and learning some of the skills needed to do cross country. The children also showed their excellent reciprocity skills when discussing good sportsmanship when competing with one another.

A group of Year 5 and 6 children also participated in a cross country race at Stubbers Activity Centre. We were exceptionally proud of their efforts and their results.
