Year 6's Excellent Experimenting

In Science in the first half of the Spring Term, Year 6 were looking at Living Things and their Habitats.

This culminated in us conducting our own experiment about microorganisms (bacteria and fungi).

After learning about what these were, we were given some bread and decided as a class to put the bread in certain places to see if it would grow mould.

After 5 days we checked back with the bread - some of us decided to put it back and check again after half term!

"I think after another week there will definitely be mould growing on the bread that has water on it." - Tiana

"I think the bread in the fridge will not grow mould." - Kevin

Pebble Painting in Year 5

Pebble Painting

This week Year 5 have the fantastic experience of pebble painting.

The children looked at a range of designs before deciding on their own.

They showed they were very resourceful, mixing colours and using a range of brushes to complete the intridcate artwork.

A lot of resilience was shown trying to get the pictures they wanted neatly onto the pebbles.

The children are all really pleased with the final productes and are looking forward to adding them back into nature on our walk after half term.

“I like using my creativity and it felt really relaxing.” Karimah, Lime

"Pebble painting has been a lovely, relaxing experience."  Megan, Almond

"This has been amazing, I had to really think about what I wanted to paint." Lexi, Oak

Year 3/4 Sportshall Athletics

 Year 3/4 Sportshall Athletics

Yesterday we were fortunate enough to take a team of Year 3 and 4 children to Hornchurch Sports Centre to take part in the Sportshall Athletics competition, which is run by the Havering Sports Collective.

The children showed huge resilience as they competed in a variety of events including: relay races, obstacle races, hurdles, speed bounce, long jump, five strides, verticle jump and chest push. They represented their school excellently with their determination and inspiring reciprocity to their team mates (and the other schools participating).

Broadford Primary School came 6th and all the children deserve to be very proud of themselves!

We can't wait for the next event!

Year 5 Nature Walk - 1.3.24

 Year 5 Nature Walk - Friday 1st March 2024

10 reasons to take a walk in the woods and start forest hiking

Dear Parents and Carers,

On Friday 1st March 2024, Year 5 will be going on a Nature Walk around the local area. The trip is part of Broadford Primary School’s enriching experiences.

The children need to arrive promptly at school at 8.45am. We will be spending the morning walking around the local area and making observations. We will arrive back at school by lunchtime so children do not need to bring a packed lunch. Children are more than welcome to bring a bottle of water and snack to take with them for the morning.

Children are required to wear their school uniform on the day of the trip. The day will involve lots of walking therefore we suggest children wear trainers (or other comfortable shoes) and weather appropriate clothing as our day will be spent outside. If the weather means our trip cannot go ahead, it will be postponed.

We will require volunteers to accompany the classes. If you are able to help, please email the Year 5 inbox year5@broadford.havering.sch.uk

Yours sincerely,

Year 5 Team

Year 6 Spellings 9.2.24

A change to the Year 6 spellings in preparation for the SATS.

There will now be 3 spelling groups: A, B and C.

B group will move into A group.

C group will move into B group.

D group will move into C group.

When the children complete their spelling test, they will be given their spelling words in a random order and will fill in the blank of a sentence.

This will ready the children for May and also ensure they aren't just learning them in order by heart for the test only.
