Year 5 Forest School - Session 2

Forest School - Session 2

It has been great to be back to school and back to our Forest School sessions. As usual the children came with bundles of enthusiasm and excitement.

This week's session started with everyone playing a team game called, 'Squirrels Store'. This involved working in two teams to collect as many acorns as possible. The children were very resourceful in the ways in which they collected the acorns and showed great reciprocity. Once all acorn had been collected, they were then used to play games using the tarpaulin.

The children then learnt how to tie two different knots - The Timber Hitch and The Half Hitch on the Bite. Having learnt how to tie the knots, the children then used these newly learnt skills to help put up a shelter.

During reflection time, the children discussed what they had enjoyed the most and what they want to explore in future sessions. Although many activities are planned for the children, Forest School strongly encourages participant–led learning, so as the weeks progress, learners are given more freedom and responsibility to explore their interests and therefore initiate and direct their own learning.
