Well done to all of our certificate winners this week!
Well done to all of our certificate winners this week!
Redwood
There is nothing quite like a science-fiction twist to get children excited about writing. This week, our budding authors took a "deep dive" (quite literally!) into the human body. To link our science topic on the digestive system with our creative writing, the children were tasked with writing a diary entry from the perspective of a piece of food.
By personifying a piece of broccoli or a wayward spaghetti noodle, the children were able to demonstrate their scientific knowledge of biological processes while practising first-person narrative and emotive language.
Year 5 Rock Painting Joys
With inspiration from nature and things that the children find beautiful in their eyes, they were able to to turn a plain stone into an eye-catching piece of art.

We have now been able to rebook the Imperial War museum trip for year 5. Birch and Redwood will be going on Wednesday 6th May and Larch the 8th May. the permission slips and lunches will stay the same so please don.'t worry about signing permissions.
On the day of the trip, children need to arrive in the morning at normal school time (8.30am) and we will be leaving promptly at 9.00am and returning to school at approximately 3pm. If we are due to arrive back to school early or late, a message will be shared on the school's Facebook page.
Children should wear normal school uniform and comfortable shoes and will need to bring with them/ wear on the day the following:
A waterproof coat.
Packed lunch in a named, plastic (disposable) bag.
A hat and suncream (if we are fortunate enough to have hot weather).
Many thanks for your continued support,
Year 5 Team

Dear Parents/Carers,
11th May-14th May is the KS2 SATS week in Year 6.
We would love to invite all of Year 6 to join us in school for breakfast at 8am everyday.
We want to make sure that all the children feel fuelled and ready for the day, having eaten a healthy breakfast. It will also provide the children with an opportunity to socialise with their friends and teachers; calming their nerves before they sit their test papers.
It will also ensure they are in school on time, which is paramount in the day running smoothly.
Children can enter through the grey door on the left of the office and make their way to their classrooms.
Sports morning clubs for Year 6 children will be cancelled next week so that the children can attend.
Children do not need to bring anything extra for school this week, everything will be provided for them.
If your child is not going to be in school it is vital that we are made aware as soon as possible (on the day please ring the office as soon as you know).
Any questions please do not hesitate to email at year6@broadford.havering.sch.uk
Our Year 6 classrooms have been buzzing with mathematical precision! We’ve taken a deep dive into the world of geometry, moving from hands-on measuring to complex problem-solving.
We started by sharpening our practical skills. Using a protractor can be tricky - you have to line up the vertex perfectly and decide whether to use the inner or outer scale. The students have become experts at identifying:
Acute Angles: Smaller than 90°.
Reflex Angles: The "big ones" that are greater than 180°.
Once we mastered the physical tools, we put the protractors away and turned on our "logic brains." We moved into calculating missing angles using our knowledge of geometric rules.
The students learned that they don't always need to measure if they know the "laws of the line." We've been practicing two key rules:
Angles on a straight line always sum to 180°.
Angles around a point always sum to 360°.
