Outdoor Graphing Challenge

On Wednesday, Maple Maths class escaped the four walls of the classroom to create graphs that explained the number of laws for climate change in each country. Here is Ruby and Tobi's opinion on the lesson:

First I had to collect all are materials for are graph and take it back to are group.once I had all the materials for are graph we had to create are graph. Then We had to make all the numbers on the side of the graph with stones. Then I had to make the names of the countries with sticks. After that we had to fill in the columns with stones. Ruby

It was so much fun doing a graph outside rather than completing a graph inside. Tobi

Year 5 Rate Their Learning

Year 5 have been assessing their own learning in an attempt to reach their goal of becoming more responsible and independent learners.
They have thought about the level of skill and challenge that they thought they had in today's Maths lesson about multiplying decimals by single digits.
Tomorrow, the children that have identified themselves as having a low level of challenge will be attempting to multiply decimals by two digit numbers!
What extraordinary mathematicians we have in our school!

Snapshot of PSHCE in Maple

Embarrassment is so horrible that sometimes we will do anything to avoid feeling embarrassed. It is difficult to think sensibly and problem solve when we are embarrassed.

PSCHE in Maple last week involved us discussing embarrassment and creating freeze frames for some of our embarrassing moments. Some scenarios included wearing odd shoes, saying the wrong thing  infront of a crowd and walking out of the house with our trousers inside out. We discovered that being embarrassed is a perfectly normal and if we see a person who is caught in an embarrassing we can:

1. Cheer them up
2. Take the attention away from them
3. Change the topic

Year 5/6 Cricket: Willow vs Maple

PE last week consisted of bats, cricket balls, wickets and plenty of cheering on the side.

Maple class challenged Willow to a game of cricket. It was a fun-filled 30 minutes with Thomas Doidge, Fjorald, Charlie, Ruby and Daniella scoring numerous runs for the Maple team. Gabriella, James and Samantha displayed some excellent fielding work on the Willow team. Sadly, Maple lost the match.

Well done to everyone who participated. This week its Maple vs Elm. Stay tuned for updates!
