Year 6's surprise from Miss Reynolds

Today, our Year 6 children were told by Miss Reynolds to come and see her at lunch time for a special surprise.
Low and behold, when they walked in to Willow class a special guest speaker was ready and waiting to give them a special message via live video link up.
That special guest was...
Our very own Miss McGuinness!
The Year 6 children were delighted to speak to Miss McGuinness, whom had taught some of our current Year 6 children as last year's year 5 or in Year 3.
Miss McGuinness and Miss Reynolds arranged the surprise so that Miss M could give the children a final farewell before they leave us tomorrow for their quests into secondary school, and to congratulate them for their amazing SAT results and all of the hard work they have put in this year.
There were tears on both sides of the Atlantic while sharing stories of years gone by.
"This was a fantastic surprise, Miss R!" said a very happy Toheeb.
Miss McGuinness extends her well wishes to all of the children, families and friends of Broadford.

Capacity Maths

Miss Reynolds' maths class were taking advantage of the lovely weather today and got outside armed with measuring cylinders of varying capacities, water and some extra challenging capacity problems.

The children not only had to figure out the answers to addition and subtraction problems with capacity, but they also had to show an adult their final answer using the water and measuring equipment (Of course, they didn't mind if the ended up getting a little wet in the process!).

More information about today's star learner, Liam, can be found on our Audioboo.

Kieran's Favourite things from 2013...

Kieran has recounted his year at Broadford by mentioning his favourite things

Kieran: I joined this year and this is the best year at any school. I don’t usually like coming to school but I do now!! Coming to this is the best decision I ever have made!

My top 5 things I like about Broadford are:
1. The children are kind and polite
2. The after school clubs are wicked!
3. The lessons are really fun- I enjoy Maths Games day with Miss Howson  on a Friday and Outdoor Learning every Wednesday
4. We help the community by fundraising
5. We are rewarded for everything!

That is a summary of my favourite things from the 2012-2013 Academic year.

Aussie Aussie Aussie

This week Maple have been learning about Australia. We have made dot paintings which are created by aboriginal people in Australia to reflect a story or event in their lives. We also made our own Australian flags and connected the Aboriginal flag with the Aussie flag.We included things like a Koala, Kangaroo, Uluru, Sydney Harbour Bridge and the famous Sydney opera house.

Some terms we have learnt from studying the Australian language are:
G'day
Mate
Fair dinkum
Dinky di
Oz
Boomer

Maple and Willows Theme Park Adventure!

While the year 6's have been hard at work practicing their play, the year 5's in Willow and Maple are hard at work creating their very own theme park. First they allocated a role to each person in their groups. The roles included Project Director, Graphic Designer, Accounts Director and Publicity Director. They then designed their own companys logo and name.  The next step involves calculating the cost of producing the heme park, running costs and even building the theme park!

Stay tuned for more updates...
