Tom's Midnight Garden Workshop

On Wednesday all of the children in years 1-6 watched a special performance of Tom's Midnight Garden by theatre company M&M Productions. The children watched on intrigued as Tom made his way into the mysterious midnight garden.
After the performance, years 5 and 6 children were treated to a brilliant workshop in which the stars of the show gave their top acting tips, showed how the set design worked and answered lots of our budding actors and directors questions. M&M Productions will be back next year with another exciting play.

Gymnastics at Drapers

Yesterday a selection of Years 5 and 6 children travelled down to Drapers Academy for an afternoon of gymnastics fun. Accompanied by Miss Cook the children took part in a number of gymnastics challenges and showed off their very best cart-wheels, handstands, and human pyramids to the staff at Drapers. There is going to be a second session next Thursday for our budding gymnasts- who knows, one day they could be part of the next Team GB!

Patriotic Topic

Years 5 and 6 are gearing up for a very patriotic topic this half term! The children will be studying various figures from British backgrounds in order to find out the answer to the question: Who Made Great Britain Great?
Should there be a figure that you would like us to include in our studies and activities please feel free to come see your child's class teacher. It's sure to be a very interesting topic!

Wednesday, 23 April 2014

The third and final round will be starting shortly.

To ensure that we have the best team possible, take the crown and win the title of the ‘The best spellers on the hill!’ we are holding the final round of the school based competition by the end of this half term. Remember, you have to know all the words from the term 1 and 2 lists as well as the words from the term 3 list!

The in house spelling bee will be held in classes and the winners from each class will go forward to the whole school competition during the first week of the summer term. This is the round that will decide the winning team, who will represent the school at the locality spelling bee at Drapers Academy in June.

If you are good speller with a memory like a steel trap and you would like to win a kindle, then we need you!

Start your spelling training today. Good Luck!

Jessica's super sentence!

Miss Munday is very pleased as today in Read,Write, Inc Jessica independently wrote a super sentence using capital letters, accurate spellings and correct punctuation. Well done keep it up!

Maths Challenge afternoon with Elm

This afternoon Elm class have been pushed to the limit ... the mathematical limit! With three maths challenges presented to them, the class had to work together to solve the puzzles.
The first challenge was to get one wedding cake from the first post to the third (the van). They couldn't move more than one layer or put a big piece on a smaller piece. How many moves would it take?
Next we had to use 3 pieces of string to make as many triangles across a W as possible. The maximum was 9. Could anyone work out how?

Using 4 different shapes the class ad to fit them together to make a rectangle.

Elm have definitely used their resilience muscle today!
