Junior Travel Ambassadors Day Out – Wednesday 21st May

The JTA’s were very excited as they were invited to visit the London Transport Museum with other JTA’s from other local schools.

We travelled to London using public transport and when we arrived we had plenty of time to explore the museum and complete the stamper trail. There were 13 stamps to collect at each station throughout the museum.

In the afternoon, we joined the other JTA’s for a workshop about Art on the underground. We observed many of the amazing posters that have been displayed on London Transport and discussed the audience and purpose of them. We had an amazing opportunity to design our own poster which encourages people to cycle using the slogan “It’s quicker by bike!”. Mrs Nicholls thought our poster was the best!
We had a great day out and even saw a bus that used to travel through Noak Hill!

Free the Children – We Scare Hunger Campaign

Spencer, Joe, Emma and Adam took time out of their busy school day to volunteer at the Harold Hill Foodbank at Hilldene. Their amazing efforts will go towards advertising Broadford Primary’s School food drive on Thursday 12th June. This is to support the Free the children, We Scare Hunger campaign that the school are taking part in this year.
The Harold Hill foodbank is part of the The Trussell Trust and functions completely on donated food or sponsorship from the public. The children visited to find out exactly what goes on and worked alongside the volunteers at the foodbank to see how it all works.

How a food bank works

Step 1

Non-perishable food is donated by the public.

Step 2

Volunteers sort and pack the food into emergency food boxes.

Step 3

Frontline care professionals such as doctors and social workers give foodbank vouchers to people in crisis.

Step 4

Foodbank vouchers are exchanged for 3 days of food at the foodbank.

After the visit Adam stated ‘I think it’s a brilliant service and I am definitely going to donate food. Maybe even 2 or 3 items!” Go for it Adam!

Look out for more information about the upcoming food drive on Thursday 12th June.

An afternoon of rounders

After an extensive morning of tests (maths paper A and mental maths) year 6 let off steam with a rounders match. Mr Clark was looking for skill and team players to be selected for an upcoming rounders tournament!
As a reward for working well this week, we were then able to test out the new fitness trail!
