Fabulous Food Tech in Year 6!

In Food Tech, we have been learning about Seasonal Food: the times of year when a given type food is at its peak, either in terms of harvest or its flavour.

"Seasonal food is better for the environment because it means it takes less energy and omissions to produce compared to food that is imported or not in season." - Moyin, Almond

The children were extremely resilient whilst trying some new foods: wild rocket, tzatziki, beetroot, avocado...

Excellent Editing in Year 6 - 28.06.22

Recently, year 6 have been writing an alternative narrative based on our literacy text, 'Rooftoppers'. We were led into the depths of mystery as we uncovered that Sophie had spied a peculiar being amongst the Paris rooftops. What was that mysterious creature? Year 6 decided!

Each pupil planned their very own version of events once Sophie's eyes were met with the unknown. The children loved creating their storylines using specific literary skills to create tension and suspense.

After compiling their mystical pieces, the children then spent time to carefully edit and evaluate their work with their peers in order to improve and enhance their writing further.

"I'm going to make this a romance" - Zara, Lime

"I'm going to use ideas from the book 'Wonder' as well and say that the mysterious figure is a human boy with a disability and then Sophie becomes his friend by showing kindness and not judging him" - Tyler, Oak

Year 6 Celebration Evening - Wednesday 13th July

We are delighted to remind all parents about our Year 6 Celebration evening on Wednesday 13th July

This will be a wonderful opportunity for the children to look back on all their memories at Broadford and a chance for staff and parents to celebrate their primary school chapter ending.

The children will enjoy a barbecue with their friends after school and then doors will be open to parents from 5:15pm. We aim to start the celebrations at 5:30pm in the Old Hall.

We look forward to seeing as many parents there as possible!

We have lots of special things planned for the children over the next few weeks to mark the end of their time at Broadford - we will make sure to share all of our plans with parents next week.

Thank you for your continued support.

Marshmallow Maths in Year 5

Marshmallow Maths in Year 5

Our recent Maths topic has been shape, we have been looking at the properties of shape and identifying them in a range of 2D diagrams.

We can find acute, obtuse and even reflex angles.
We can identify and explain pairs of parallel lines as well as perpendicular.

Using this knowledge we were able to build 2D shapes using spaghetti and marshmallows.
We then extended this to 3D shapes, which were tricky to make stand.

My cube has 6 square faces. Chidubem, Maple

My parallelogram has 2 pairs of parallel sides. Dhriti, Redwood

Year 6's Water Fun!

The Year 6's have worked so hard this week and we decided they deserved some summer sun and cooling water!

We played some fun team-building games and the children were able to display the perfect balance of reciprocity and healthy competitiveness.

Although they all got completely soaked (including Mrs Claxton) it was so much fun and the best way to cool down on the hottest day of the year so far!

Year 5 Swimming Lesson Update

Everyone Active have contacted us to let us know about some refurbishments in the Swimming Pool between the 4th July - 5th September 2022.

Unfortunately they are unable to accommodate our school's visits during this time as it is impractical to continue with the swim programme while works are being completed.

They are extremely sorry for any inconvenience and disappointment caused.

This means that Maple will have two sessions left: one tomorrow on the 22nd June and one on the 29th June.

The new Year 6 team will consider if we send Maple class to Swimming when swimming lessons can resume and will communicate that to parents.

There will still be free swim sessions for Havering residents aged 8 years-16 years during the summer holidays for main pool sessions between 9am - 3pm Monday- Friday. All children will need to be registered with an Ea card at our pool to qualify.

Thanks for your understanding.

Mersea Lost Property

There is a lot of lost property left from our trip to Mersea!

We have dedicated a table outside on the playground to all the items we brought back with us.

If your child has brought home any items that don't belong to them please do give the items to your child to bring into their class teacher.

Thanks

Year 5's residential to Mersea

 Year 5's residential to Mersea

Last week, year 5 went on their residential to Mersea. They were able to take part in many activities such as archery, high ropes, zip wire and climbing. Being outdoors, the children were able to build on skills like teamwork, understand, empathy, resilience and respect. All the children should be so proud of themselves, they have achieved so much during this trip, from being away from their parents and families to facing their fears and taking part in activities they have never done. Well done Year 5!

Richie- I was so proud of myself when I got to the top of the climbing wall!

Hannah- This trip was enlightening!

Layla- I loved the zipline because it was thrilling!

Mimi- I loved everything we did!
