Willow visit Drapers Academy

This afternoon Willow were very fortunate to have been invited to Drapers Academy for a one off PE lesson. In the shiny new Sports Hall Willow, accompanied by Mr Stallard, played two thrilling games of cricket and cricket related games.
Having escaped the pouring rain, the children very much enjoyed their afternoon, and improved their fielding skills no end! A big thank you to Drapers Academy!

Drapers Academy's Egg-citing competition

Year 5 and 6 were visited by Drapers Academy today. Students from the school's Environmental Club talked about their new state-of-the-art facilities and their new chicken coup. The children were told lots of fascinating facts about chickens and their contribution to our planet. Did you know that there are more chickens on Earth than people?
Egg-citingly, (sorry, couldn't resist!) the chickens have laid eggs, and one more is yet to be named. Our year 5 and 6 children have been invited to enter a competition to name the little hen by coming up with a short story about how she got her name.
Well done and a big thank you to the students from Drapers.

Mosaic Masterpieces

The year 5s have been hard at work creating their very own masterpieces for today's Art/ Design and Technology. They used famous paintings as a base and created a mosaic like effect using ripped coloured pieces from magazines and newspapers.

Check out their masterpieces in the making!

From India to Broadford

Did you know that Indian dances express and illuminate India's culture? Each form represents the culture and ethos of a particular region or a group of people. The year 5's have been learning all about India this term.

Today's lesson involved us examining Indian dances and the storylines behind them. After we had memorized and practiced some Indian moves, it was time to get our boogie on and create a Broadford dance that represented the culture of Broadford Primary School.

Some ideas that were included in our dance were:
Resilience and determination to keep going
Friendships we make at school
Clubs in our school
The Broadford logo
and how could we not forget the fantastic football team that Broadford has!

Check out the pictures below for a better insight into what we created...

Whilst the year 6's are completing their SATS papers, the year 5's are slaving away in the hall learning all about the features of Pie Corbett poems.

Check out the year 5s working their little socks off:

Bailey the Budding PT

Big thanks to Bailey Finlayson for stepping in in the absence of regular circuit training instructor, Joe today! Bailey proved to be quite the help with Willow and Maple's circuit training; instructing them on the correct way to do leg crunches, press ups, sit ups and push ups. He even explained carefully which muscles would be worked to optimum levels at each circuit station. A budding career as a Personal Trainer perhaps? Well done and a big thank you, Bailey! Thank you also to his assistants, Jerell and Alex.

If I had fins...

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have fins? What would you do? Where would you go? That's exactly what Year 5 were pondering today in their poetry lesson. Inspired by Pie Corbett's "If I had Wings" they "borrowed" the structure to create their own version. Have a read and see what they would get up to...

One fish, two fish, big fish, blue fish.

In numeracy we have been learning about Venn diagrams .

Today we classified an assortment of fish into a Venn diagram .We used hula hoops to set out the Venn diagram and we had to pick out a heading from Miss Howson's hat. We then had to classify each of the fish into the correct hoop. If they fitted into both hoops they were placed in the middle of both hoops. If they didn't fit into any category then they were placed on the outside of the Venn diagram.

Here is what we created:

Year 5 Grid Sentences

Year 5 have been generating fabulous sentences in a fun game this morning.
They used dice to come up with a grid reference which challenged them to use a particular writing technique in their sentences.
The winners of the game were those who came up with the most accurate sentences in 5 minutes.
And the winners were... (Drum roll please!)

Gabriella and Adam!

They won 5 house points each! Well done!
