Maths lessons in Elm Class

This week students have been focusing on data management - interpreting and analysing data on line graphs, creating tally charts and frequency tables, reviewing 12 and 24 hour time, and calculating elapsed time when reading timetables (train station and itinerary time tables).

Below are the students hard at work solving a time tarsia puzzle.

Circles

In Numeracy this week, Year 6 were illustrating and naming parts of a circle. We looked at the relationship between the diameter and radius and learnt about how the diameter is twice the radius. The radius is the distance  room the centre of the circle to the perimeter (circumference). The children had to accurately draw  circles with a set radius, semi circles, quarter circles and concentric circles.

Elm's Star Writer

Congratulations to Brandon Brown for being last week's Star Writer of the week. He wrote a thank you letter to his aunt and how grateful he was because she was the one that inspired him to have an interest in music. Brandon used the thesaurus to incorporate interesting vocabulary and also wrote sentences using fronted adverbials.

Elm's Orienteering Experience

The Year 5 students were fortunate enough to take part in an Orienteering experience at Wat Tyler Country Park. Students learned some valuable orienteering and map based skills such as using a compass and reading instructions carefully. Students were given clues and had to navigate accordingly in order to reach the final destination. Next, students were treated to an exciting time in the playground. Finally, students were involved in collaborative activities where communication and teamwork were vital!

World Book Character Day

Last Thursday, students dressed up as their favourite book characters and donated funds to a charity. Can you guess what book characters we are?
