Terrific Top Trumps in Year 6!

Year 6 have started their first week back after half term wonderfully, especially in literacy where they have been introduced to their new book: Floodland by Marcus Sedgwick. You can find the author reading each chapter here, if you would like to listen to the story with your children at home.

The year 6 children have been developing their reading and writing skills by analysing key characters in the story and writing from their perspective. Today, they created their own set of Top Trump cards to describe each character's traits. It was brilliant to hear their discussions, where they were respectfully debating how highly each character would score in certain traits and supporting any points they were making with evidence from the text.

"I scored Zoe quite highly for kindness, but not too highly because she did leave Natasha in Norwich", Oliver P, Almond

"I rated Dooby as quite high for aggression because he pulled at Zoe's arm in a violent way." Jolene, Lime

They enjoyed playing each other with them at the end of the lesson as well!

Some outstanding character analysis, Year 6. Well done!

Year 6 Trip - Science Museum

We are delighted to inform you that a trip has been booked for our Year 6 children on Wednesday 9th March. We will be visiting the Science Museum to complement the children's learning in Science and to celebrate British Science Week 2022, which takes place the following week.

On Wednesday 9th March all children are expected at school on time, so that we can leave promptly at 9:00am. We will be travelling by bus and train and expect to arrive back at school by 3pm - we will ensure to keep parents updated on our whereabouts via the school's Facebook page.

Children are required to wear school uniform; please ensure that all children wear appropriate footwear and have a waterproof coat. We will be eating lunch at the museum, so all children will need to take a packed lunch with them. Should your child require a lunch provided by the school, please indicate their preferences on the form below, log on to your sQuid account and follow the steps provided. All lunch orders must be completed by Wednesday 2nd March, so that we can process your order in time for your child’s trip. Alternatively, children can bring their own packed lunch in a carrier bag that is clearly labelled with their name and class.

We would really appreciate some parent volunteers to help out on the day. Please register your interest on the form, if you would like to accompany your child's class on the trip.

Please complete this permission form by Wednesday 2nd March. We cannot wait for the children to explore one of London's finest museums!

If you have ordered a school packed lunch, please ensure to read the allergen information contained in this document.

Magnificent Mosaic Measurements in Year 5

Today in Maths Year 5 began our unit on Area & Perimeter!

We had a great lesson where we made shapes out of tanagrams and practiced our measuring skills.

We then made mosaics of ourselves and calculated the perimeter using centimetres.

"The perimeter is the distance around the outside of the shape." - Hannah

We are looking forward to the rest of what this unit will bring!

Year 6 are Symmetry Superstars!

This week in Art, the children have been developing their mathematical understanding of symmetry and have created pieces with lines of symmetry in mind. They worked hard to complete symmetric figures with respect to a specific line of symmetry and created their own symmetrical works of art!

"It definitely helps when I use the mirror. This is so much fun!" Ollie H, Almond

Excellent work, as always, Year 6!
