Jubilee Week in Year 6!

Celebrating the Queen’s 70th reign has been quite the event in Year 6. As a year group, we chose to focus on the 1950s, which is the decade in which the Queen was coronated! The children have:
  • Designed 1950s outfits
  • Danced to 1950s songs
  • Recorded news reports about the Queen’s coronation
  • Created bunting to decorate our tea party
  • Watched a documentary on the Queen’s reign
  • Assisted Nursery children on a Jubilee Hunt on the field!
The children have demonstrated the 4Rs this week, but of particular note was their reciprocity when helping the younger children on their hunt.

Please check Google Classroom for all the pictures of the hunt.

“Platinum Jubilee stands for 70 years!” - Callie

“It was so much fun celebrating the Queen - I’ve seen so much red, white, and blue.” - Katlyn

“I’ve loved doing so many activities, but especially hanging out with the Nursery kids.” - Giada

Year 5's Jubilee Week

This week has been one big celebration for the Queen's Jubilee!

Year 5 have been working hard in their assessments in the mornings and the afternoons have been time for fun Jubilee themed activities and our theme has been the 1960's.

Below are some pictures of the children creating Andy Warhol style 'Pop Art' on the Queen, playing a game of 'Blow Football' in honour of the 1966 World Cup win!

We then visited the park to play some 1960's themed games and on Friday we had a party in the playground!

Year 4 - Multiplication Tables Check

Headteacher: Mrs Nicholls

Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check 2022

Dear Parent/Carer,

This term, your pupil will take part in the MTC (Multiplication Tables Check) that all schools in the country are required to complete. The multiplication check will take place within a three week window beginning Tuesday 7th of June 2022, after our half-term break.

The purpose of the check is to determine whether pupils can fluently recall their times tables up to 12, which is essential for future success in mathematics. It will also help your child’s teacher/s to identify pupils who may need additional support as they move into Year 5.

The MTC is an on-screen check consisting of 25 multiplication questions. Your child will answer 3 practice questions before moving onto the official check where they will then have 6 seconds to answer each question. On average, the check should take no longer than 5 minutes to complete.

The children have been practicing for this test all year and we are very proud of the progress they have made so far. If you have any questions about this please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please click on the following link for the government's ‘Information for Parents 2022 Multiplication Tables Check’.

Yours sincerely,

Miss Higgins

Reading in Year 5

As we approach the last half of the Summer term, the Year 5 team wanted to remind parents of the Broadford reading scheme: 105 books to read before you leave Broadford Primary.

At Broadford, we aim to encourage a love of reading. By providing our pupils with quality texts and introducing them to strong characters, we can broaden their perspectives on the rowed around them as they are taken to far off lands from the comfort of their chair!

The impact of reading with your child knows NO bounds! From better conversations to better written work, the impact of reading just for 15 minutes a day with your child can unlock so much.

As the children progress through the reading scheme they will have the opportunity to collect three certificates - bronze, silver and gold for every five books they read.

Below are the 15 books the children should read in Year 5:

Children are issues with a reading tacker as pictured below:

This may have been kept at school and in this case your child needs to let their teacher know which books they have read. If it has been misplaced your child's teacher will replace it.
Once your child has let their teacher know which books have been read, it will be followed with a quick chat about the book with their teacher to demonstrate their knowledge of what they have read.

Happy reading!

Delightful Designing in Year 6!

Almond and Oak maths class have been working hard to develop the design of their hotels this week; including designing specific rooms. It has been wonderful to see their research come to life and inform their innovative, creative designs through the aid of computers.

The children have made sure that the designs are fit to purpose and in line with their target market.

"The programme we used to create our room designs allowed our imagination to come to life!" Moyin, Almond.

"I loved using the computer programme to create my room design. It was really fun to play around with all the different settings to make the perfect floor plan." Jacob, Almond

We certainly have quite the few budding designers on our hands - well done Year 6! We can't wait to continue the project after half term and for the children to think more clearly about their business plans.

"I am so excited to learn more about how to create a successful business - it will definitely help me with my future!" Giada, Lime
