Year 5 & 6 Permission to Walk Home 2023/24

Year 5/6 2023/24 Permission to Walk Home

In September, if your child is in Year 5 or 6 they will be able to walk home alone.

Year 6 parents we will need your permission again for the new year.

This may just be to the gate or to your car but we will need to have your permission to let them leave from our care at the end of the day.

This year, if children would like to bring their phone into school, we need permission from their parent/ carer on the same form.

On the form there is an option to indicate if there are certain days or whether your child can walk home everyday.

Have a great summer

Year 5 2023/2024 Swimming

Year 5 2023/2024 Swimming Lessons

In Year 5 the children will be having swimming lessons at the Central Park Leisure Centre.

All parents/carers, please complete Google Form.

Each class will have one half an hour session each week in a block.

For example - Lime will go for x amount of weeks then Oak.

Lime class will begin their swimming block on Wednesday 13th September 2023.

We expect this to run for the whole year, meaning each class should get roughly 10 sessions each (STC) which will ensure they achieve the Swimming requirements of the national curriculum in KS2 which are to:

- swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 meters

- use a range of strokes effectively

- perform a safe self-rescue in different water based situations

The children will leave school in the afternoon, accompanied by Year 5 staff, and we will make our way to Central Park Leisure Centre on foot. We will return to school by approximately 3.30/ 3.35pm and children will be leaving from the front of the school by the office. Walkers will be able to be dismissed from here as usual.

A reminder of what your child will need:

  • Swimming costume or swimming trunks (no bikinis please!)

  • A towel

  • A named bag to carry and store their items in

  • A swimming hat

  • Goggles (not essential, but can be worn if preferred)

Children should come to school in their uniform and will get changed when we arrive at Central Park Leisure Centre. Please note, no aerosols or powders should be given to children, as these can cause problems for children with asthma.

All children, regardless of ability, will be taking part in swimming lessons as they are a National Curriculum requirement. Children will only be exempt from lessons with a signed and dated doctor’s note or certificate.

If you have any questions or queries about this or any other swimming related issue, please do not hesitate to contact a member of the Year 5 team via year5@broadford.havering.sch.uk.

Our Year 6's Last Week

THE END IS COMING (and no, I am not talking about a virus)

Dear Parents and Carers,

This week we have two things planned to make you aware of.

On Thursday we will be having a rematch of our water event from Year 5 plus we are bringing back the water slide from previous years! Thus, the children will need to bring in a spare change of clothes.

They are more than welcome to come into school in their PE kit and then change into their uniform for the rest of the day.

A towel might also be necessary!

We will be providing everything else.

------------------------------------------------------------

On Friday, we will be saying our final goodbyes to our Year 6 pupils as they move on to the next chapter of their education.

For this day children are invited to bring in a spare t-shirt to be signed.

Furthermore, we would like to wish them well and send them off with a tradition we began last year.

On the last day of term, Friday 21st July, Year 6 pupils will be dismissed at 2.45 pm.

The rest of KS2 will support them on their last exit from the school with lots of cheers.

Please meet your child at the large vehicles gate on Faringdon Avenue, where there will also be a banner for a photo opportunity not to be missed and last minute goodbyes!

We look forward to seeing you there to give your children the send off they deserve.

Any questions please contact year6@broadford.havering.sch.uk

OPAL 14.7.23

  OPAL- Outdoor Play and Learning

Tyres

We have been fortunate enough to have had tyres at Broadford for quite awhile now

We have already found many ways to play with them including:

  • Rolling races
  • Using them as goals for football games
  • Markers for tug of war
  • Markers for running races
  • Stacking them
  • Using them as part of the den building resources

This week the children decided to see how many tyres they could safely stack. It took a lot of resilience and reciprocity to achieve.

As you can see they were very pleased with their results.

As always we would appreciate any more resources you could add to our collection. So, do think of us if you are having a clear out. The items we are looking for will enable us to enjoy a wider range of play experiences during playtime (see below for some examples):

  • Bread crates
  • Cable drums
  • Metal/plastic pots and pans
  • Range of plastic utensils.
  • Guttering
  • Dressing up clothes
  • Blankets (to add to our den building)
  • Small World toys (Dinosaurs, cars etc..)
  • Scooters
  • Deck chairs/ camping chairs (all sizes)
  • Outdoor cushions

Please take any donations to the school office.

Year 5 Go Bonkers

This week Year 5 Got to enjoy Go Bonkers. They thoroughly enjoyed getting the time outside; being active; getting their heart rate raised; and stretching their legs. A popular choice was the helicopter and then the slides coming in at a close second. It was amazing to see children use their resilience and reciprocity when needed (especially those who were a little more hesitant at first).

"I was really nervous at first, but actually... that was amazing!" - Mason, Redwood

"I've had so much fun going on the bouncy castles, especially the same ones they had in Mersea! - Freddie
"that was so much fun! I'm so glad they came today," - Brooke, Maple
