STEAM-Powered Music Workshop

Today in Year 6, some pupils were offered the opportunity to participate in the STEAM-Powered music project, offered by Conductive Music. It was a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to experience music and digital technology first-hand and has introduced them to a potential career in music creation and design.

The pupils used coding and the Microsoft Block to create their own musical instrument. Some of the pupils were even lucky enough to create their own speaker using special materials provided by the STEAM-Powered music project.

Giulia Vargas of Larch stated: ' This experiment was really difficult but after I achieved the sound it has inspired me to be involved with coding when I am older!'

Not only have our pupils had fun participating in the workshop, but they have also used reciprocity (by collaborating as teams) and resilience (in trying something new and challenging). The pupils learnt how an electronic circuit works; used object-based coding and have gained a greater awareness of rhythm, pitch and other musical terms. This experience has allowed our pupils an insight into a world which they may never have been exposed to and opened a wealth of opportunities to prepare them for their future.
