Year 6 have been learning about being outstanding citizens.
Firstly we learnt about DR ABC. If we found a person who appeared unconscious we know what to do! Check for DANGER, check for a RESPONSE, check persons AIRWAYS and BREATHING and lastly CALL 999!
Next we met the Transport Police, we know what to do if we are ever in danger on a bus...Always tell the bus driver if there are any problems when it's safe to do so!
Afterwards we went to an 'abandoned building' we know to stay away from them and to never go inside one as we don't know what dangers could be inside.
Next we learnt about road safety and wearing our cycle helmets!! If we ever fell off our bikes or were hit by a car, the helmet could be the difference between life and death.
Then we saw a demonstration from UK Power Station showing us the dangers of electricity.
Next we had a discussion about litter and our responsibility to ensure we throw all our rubbish away and pick up any animal mess too!! Who wants poo on their shoes? Plus the effect it has on our environment.
Afterwards we went to meet some firefighters, we found out that 2-3 breaths of smoke and you are unconscious. We need to remember to check our smoke alarms and test them to ensure they work. Check they work weekly and change your batteries each year.
Lastly we looked at how we can keep ourselves healthy and take care of our bodies.
