Year 6 MOD Pizza

Year 6 thoroughly enjoyed themselves when they visited MOD Pizza.

On arrival, the children were spoken to about the history of MOD Pizza.
They each made a cardboard pizza box to store their pizza in.
One by one, each child chose their sauce and then decorated their pizza with a wide range of ingredients.

The children had an excellent time and all said their pizzas tasted delicious!
The staff were very impressed with how the children behaved and how polite they were.

There were lots of photos taken of the children, they have been uploaded to an album on Facebook.

All year groups- FIVER CHALLENGE!

This week year 5 have been taking part in the Fiver Challenge and all have been working incredibly hard!

About Fiver Challenge:
Fiver Challenge is a chance for the children to work in groups and they are each given £5 to start an enterprise and make a profit. It encourages the children to: work as a team, be creative, use problem-solving skills, listen and share ideas, make decisions and is part of the financial curriculum.

Thursday 27th June/ Friday 28th June:
We are asking that the children bring in a small amount of money (if they would like to) of £1/ £2 to buy something from the Year 5 stalls.

Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 children with their teachers will have an opportunity to visit the stalls in the hall on Thursday afternoon.

Year 4 and Year 6 children with their teachers will have an opportunity to visit the stalls in the hall on Friday between break and lunch time.

We would then like to invite the parents, carers and family members of the Year 5 children to attend on Friday afternoon from 2pm.

The children have made a variety of different sweet treats, drinks and arts/ crafts to purchase!
We look forward to seeing you there and want to thank you for your continued support.

Year 6 Air Quality Performance

Today, Year 6 children watched a performance by the Miles the Mole Production Team. The performance highlighted the importance of air quality and how the children can make the air cleaner. They learnt how their actions - walking, scooting or travelling by bike - can have a positive impact on air quality.

Before the performance, the children completed work in class that discussed what pollution is and how they can encourage family and friends to reduce the amount of pollution they emit into the atmosphere. The children also plotted their walk to school on a map and discussed the amount of traffic that passed them on the roads they travelled along. After considering the quality of air that they would be breathing on their normal route to school, the children looked for alternate, cleaner routes to walk.

70% of all pollution comes from road traffic so they suggested that the children walk to school, ask car owners to turn their car off when waiting in traffic and ask for car owners to not leave their parked cars idling.

Year 5- Fiver Challenge

Year 5-Inpsirational talk

Today, year 5 and 6 children joined Mead to attend an inspirational talk hosted by successful members of the community.

Ed Conventry spoke to the children about his various flying accolades and path to success. His various achievements include; meeting the Queen, being in the Guinness Book of World Records and owning his own helicopter.

We later met Peter Hewitt who told us his story of growing up in Romford, working on the market stall and later working hard to become the UK's youngest pilot and a renowned British Airlines pilot.

The children thoroughly enjoyed hearing about Ed and Peter's stories of dramatic landings, aerobatic performances and meeting royalty.

Both men emphasized that hard work and perseverance have been the key to their success in the aviation field and the children left feeling inspired and motivated to pursue their goals.

Alex in Maple said, "It was an educational talk and children were able to learn from it."

Adi in Elm said, "I thought that the talk was very inspiring and it was interesting to hear about their lives."
