Year 6 Air Quality Performance

Today, Year 6 children watched a performance by the Miles the Mole Production Team. The performance highlighted the importance of air quality and how the children can make the air cleaner. They learnt how their actions - walking, scooting or travelling by bike - can have a positive impact on air quality.

Before the performance, the children completed work in class that discussed what pollution is and how they can encourage family and friends to reduce the amount of pollution they emit into the atmosphere. The children also plotted their walk to school on a map and discussed the amount of traffic that passed them on the roads they travelled along. After considering the quality of air that they would be breathing on their normal route to school, the children looked for alternate, cleaner routes to walk.

70% of all pollution comes from road traffic so they suggested that the children walk to school, ask car owners to turn their car off when waiting in traffic and ask for car owners to not leave their parked cars idling.
