Today, Year 5 conducted an experiment to investigate how to change the rate of dissolving sugar in water. In their groups, the children manipulated a one variable including; stirring, crushing the sugar cube or changing the temperature of the water.
The children recorded their results and we discussed the theory behind the results. In particular, we discussed how increasing the kinetic energy of the sugar particles will help them to dissolve faster.
