As you are aware the Hornchurch Country Park trip did not go ahead and we appreciate the children were disappointed. However, we had a WWII immersive experience by way of Gareth from The Historic Workshops who delivered an absolutely brilliant day.
The children were able to 'put out fires' as people during this time were taught, using sandbags and water, Then they used garden tools to pick up incendiary devices which were the same weight as those dropped in WWII. They were not light! The children explored and discussed different artefacts and equipment and were able to handle them as well.
First aid training was also given using stretchers and bandages, there were some very interesting ones! It was a thoroughly enjoyable day.
We will now be going to Hornchurch Country Park on the 22nd May 2025 and it will be all day, so children will need a packed lunch. I'm sure after all the research the children have been doing it will be an excellent day.
