Year 5 - Summer Curriculum Newsletter

A warm welcome back to the Summer term from the Year 5 team!

We hope you find this letter informative; please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any queries using our inbox: year5@broadford.havering.sch.uk

Homework:

Our expectation at Broadford is that every child should do the following every night:

● 15 minutes reading to themselves or an adult (signed in the reading record)

● 15 minutes practising spellings in their spelling book

● 15 minutes of rehearsing times tables facts (including multiplication and division)

Sumdog  and Times Table Rock Stars:

Every child should have their logins for the above platforms, which means they can access their accounts outside of school. Both websites offer valuable resources that can support your child’s learning in Maths, so please encourage your child to use them.

Spellings:

Spellings will be given out on Mondays. The children should practise their words every evening. Spelling books and reading records must be brought in on Fridays, which is also when the weekly test happens. This will be closely monitored and rewarded!

P.E Lessons

Like last term, PE will be on Mondays for all classes. Children are expected to come into school in an appropriate PE uniform for their lessons in the afternoon - black/grey/navy shorts or tracksuit and a white polo shirt. All classes will have PE on Friday due to UoB Sports. On Friday during Summer 1, children will be participating in University of Broadford Sports, therefore they can wear their PE kit into school on this day.

Reading Books

As reading is such a priority, we will try to make sure children’s books are regularly changed, and every child will read 1:1 with an adult at least once a week. Please remind the children to let any adults know if they need to change their book, and that it is their responsibility to bring any old reading books back to school. The children are strongly encouraged to read books from the 105 books to read at Broadford list. The children all have trackers for these books which the teacher will check off for them.

School Uniform

In sending your child to Broadford Primary School, you agree to follow the uniform  policy and work within the spirit it was written. The policy has been set out to be informative and clear; should you require clarification on any area of the school’s uniform, please contact the School Office or your child’s class teacher.

The uniform options are:

  • Navy blue sweatshirt (preferably with the Broadford logo)

  • Navy blue cardigan (preferably with the Broadford logo)

  • Navy blue fleece (preferably with the Broadford logo)

  • Collared white t-shirt (preferably with the Broadford logo)

  • Grey trousers

  • Tailored, knee-length grey shorts (worn with grey or white socks)

  • Grey regulation knee-length skirt (worn with grey or white socks)

  • Grey tights

  • Blue and white gingham dress (full-length pattern)

  • Black shoes or trainers (no heels or coloured markings)

All school uniform is available through Khalsa School Wear. Children are permitted to wear stud earrings. Children must also not attend school wearing make-up or nail varnish/fake nails. Hair accessories should be small and limited to simple ribbons, bands or clips and restricted to basic colours of blue and white.
