Year 6 Certificates - 27.6.25
Year 5 Certificates 27.6.25
Whilst the rest of Year 5 have been away at Mersea, we’ve had a fun-filled week of our own—and what a week it’s been! We kicked things off with a movie marathon experience, complete with homemade snacks and treats that we made ourselves. It was cosy, tasty, and full of laughs! Next up was a brilliant day at Central Park, where we played rounders, football, and tried out the play equipment (even the adults joined in!). And today, we wrapped things up with our very own Outdoor Adventure Day. From a fast-paced scooter obstacle course to den building and fun campfire games with s’mores- we’ve loved every minute. It’s been a fantastic week full of adventure, creativity, and fun—and we wouldn’t have changed a thing!

Year 6 Citizenship Workshop
Year 6 Citizenship Workshop
Today the children in Year 6 took part in a citizenship workshop. During this workshop the children were able to explore moving onto Secondary School: how this might make them feel, what challenges they may come across and strategies to deal with those challenges.
The children expressed they were feeling a range of emotions with regards to Year 7: excited, enthralled, happy, sad, worried and nervous. They were able to reflect on how if they can recognise and name their emotions they become easier to deal with, discuss with others and help others with how they might be feeling. This also gave the children an opportunity to reflect back on how they felt - all those years ago- when they started Primary School. These opportunities of reflection allowed for the children to think back on all they have achieved whilst at Broadford: what has made them proud? What are their fondest memories? What challenges have they overcome? Some very funny anecdotes were shared by many.
In addition, to looking into the past the children had the opportunity to look to the future and what Year 7 holds for them. The opportunity to meet new friends, learn new things and have new experiences. Although these things all sound very exciting, it was also discussed how some aspects of Year 7 can be very daunting, especially homework and detention were mentioned by many. To alleviate some of these worries, it was discussed how the resources learnt at Primary School can definitely help in these new and uncertain experiences. Our three Broadford jobs should help stand them in good stead.
To complete the session they discussed how, when worried and faced with big emotions there are resources and strategies the children can apply to help them: visually memorising their toolbox allows their toolbox to go everywhere with them, mindful breathing allows them to take a moment before reacting and listening to the inner voice, which will guide them to the right choices and help keep them calm.
"It really helped us learn about what we're going to be learning in secondary school. I feel very prepared to go." Shivanshi, Birch.
"Today we learnt how we might be feeling going to secondary school. It's okay to feel how you feel - you're allowed to!" Anushri, Redwood.
"Always be kind and polite and you will make new friends." Grace, Larch

We are thrilled to share that our Year 6 students had an unforgettable Sports Day! The sun was shining, and the energy was palpable as students participated in a variety of events, showcasing their athleticism, teamwork, and school spirit.
From classic races to creative challenges, every child gave their best effort, cheering each other on and celebrating every success. It was heart-warming to see the camaraderie and enthusiasm that filled the day.
To capture these special moments, we've created a highlight video that showcases the excitement and joy of the day. We invite all parents to watch and relive the wonderful memories made. You will find the video on your child's Google Classroom page.

Year 5 Parents - Mersea - Last Update!
Dear Parents/Carers,
We thought we would provide you with some questions and answers ahead of our Mersea trip next week (Wednesday 25th June-Friday 27th June).
What time will be leaving?
We will be aiming to leave at 9am - as soon as everyone arrives we will leave.
How much pocket money should my child bring?
This is by no means compulsory but at Mersea there is a tuck shop for children to purchase snacks. We ask for a maximum of £5 to be handed in to your child's group leader in a named bag/envelope.
Can I contact my child whilst they're away?
Unfortunately the phone signal at Mersea is tempremental - if you need to contact your child please speak with the office who will get in touch with us.
What does my child need to bring?
Please see here for a kit list
What will my child be sleeping in?
Your child will be in a same-sex tent with maximum 6 children. They will have a mat to sleep on but will need a sleeping bag and pillow.
What about my child's medication?
We have received all medication information from you and have an extensive list of adminstering it (based on the information you have provided). Please bring the medication your child needs to school on Wednesday morning, clearly labelled. Please hand to Miss Betty or Mrs Ward.
Will we get any updates?
Due to lack of phone signal, we will update you when we have arrived, Mrs Nicholls will provide some updates on Thursday when she comes to visit and on Friday we will update you with a pre-travelling home photo! When we return home we will blog the rest of the photos we will have taken
Can my child bring their phone?
No, we ask for this to be a device-free holiday!
Can my child bring snacks?
We ask for children not to bring snacks as leftover food can attract rats to the tent!
When will you be returning?
We will be leaving Mersea around 1pm, traffic depending we should be back before the end of school. We will text you with an updated ETA.
A reminder that your child will be encouraged to complete the activities but will not have to complete them.

Improving Body Image in PSHE (Y6)
Improving Body Image in PSHE
Our current unit of PSHE focuses on 'Growing and Changing'. As part of this, we have been looking at body image, how people see themselves and the impact of social media on poeple's perceptions of themselves.
We reflected on how we are often exposed to people's 'best bits' on social media and that sometimes photos and videos can be edited to make people look different. Often, the impact of this can be that young people feel pressure to look a certain way which can be bad for their mental health.
After much discussion, we completed an activity to boost the self-esteem of our peers. We wrote compliments about each other's personalities and appearances then read them out to the class.
"It was really nice giving and receiving compliments about our appearances and personalities. Someone said I had striking brown eyess." Irfan, Birch
"We learnt about body image and how we should think about ourselves in a positive way. In the task, people anonymously wrote four things about us. We were all happy to find out the kind things that were said." - Eddie, Redwood
