Year 5 describe and build 3D shapes

This morning the children are constructing their own 3D shapes using straw and blu-tack. After carefully drawing a diagram of the shape they are constructing, the children must ensure that measurements and cutting are accurate. This is proving more difficult than it looks, with a lot of trial and error going on! There are a range of shapes being constructed including square based pyramids and octagonal prisms and the children are able to describe the properties of the shapes using mathematical language.
