The children have had a fantastic few weeks back at school carrying out experiments in science, including what makes a better parachute. The children used pieces of paper to see how long they took to fall to the floor and the children discovered the larger the surface area, the longer it took to float to the floor.
We then moved onto materials that are conductors and those that are insulators. We used components to make a circuit for the children to test the materials. They worked in small groups to work collaboratively and tested wood, aluminium foil, plastic and coins. We looked at variables, controls and the children understood the concept of a fair test. They demonstrated their understanding of what materials were insulators and those which were conductors by lighting the bulb in the circuit.
