In our hook lesson, we discussed varying different vocabulary that we will encounter during our History lessons. We then had a look at some pictures of artefacts from the Benin period - some of the children had questions but some made statements about what they thought onto a post it note.
‘I think it is a special gold wrist band’
‘I think this was used as an ornament’,
‘Probably for a king or someone well known to hide their identity’.
All children showed both reciprocity and resilience while working in small groups. They took it in turns to discuss the different artefacts and listenend to each others opinions.
'I wonder what the symbols on the mask represent and who would have worn it.' Karimah, Birch
'The Kingdom of Benin was home to the Edo people.' - Skyla
'A primary resource is something that is original and shows evidene.' Francesca
