Year 5 - WWII Trip 22.5.25

Year 5 - WWII Trip 22.5.25

This week, Year 5 visited Hornchurch Country Park which used to be an airfield during WWII. We explored the park and were able to have a look inside one of the pill boxes/bunkers that would have been used during  the war.

The children were able to recall key facts about the war and the impact it had on Britain. The old airfield has been transformed and is now the home of a park, nature reserve and residential housing (all of the road names have a link back to the airfield!)

"The War started in 1939 and ended on the 8th May 1945" - Stiven, Lime

"There are bullet holes on the side of the bunker where it has been shot at" - Dina, Oak

"I can't believe we are standing on what used to be a runway" - Evie, Almond

Afterwards, the children enjoyed a picnic in the park and completed a nature walk before having some time to run around and play.
