Year 5 Geography WOW day

To celebrate the beginning of our new topic, 'What are the differences between the physical and human geographical features in the United Kingdom?', the children in Year 5 had the opportunity to explore the United Kingdom and the many things it has to offer!

The children tried a range of activities, including:

- trying to piece together all of the UK counties to make a map of the UK
- learning about the capital cities, flags and flowers of each of the countries of the UK
- investigating dialect from different parts of the UK
- finding famous landmarks (human and physical geographical features)
- tasting a range of cheeses from around the UK, including Red Leicester (which proved to be the most popular!)

Resourcefulness
The children had to utilise their logical and rational skills when explaining their reasons when matching flags, flowers and capital cities to the countries of the U.K.

"I knew the rose was the national flower of England because I had seen it before on the England rugby team's shirts" - Ellis Curtis-Rich
