As we celebrated International Women's Day, this occasion provided Year 5 with the opportunity to reflect on what it means to be a positive role model and how progression in society is a role which everyone is responsible for.
In our classes, we discussed who we think has fit the criteria of an inspirational woman and paved the way for change. In Year 5, we agreed that Malala Yousafzai is a woman to look up to, as a result of her courage and determination to not be silenced.
'We chose Malala because we could not believe how brave she was to carry on campaigning for girls being allowed to go to school and get an education after she had been shot by the Taliban in Pakistan on her way to school. She has helped us to appreciate how lucky we are to have the gift of education and to make a good life for ourselves.' Year 5.
To recognise her influence, Year 5 created a portrait of Malala in pop art style!
