Did someone say Harold Hill Netball Champions?

Today, our incredibly gifted netballers competed in the most brutal of matches against their very strong competitors, Mead. However, it was no ordinary match. It was the FINALS match, which determined who was the overall champion school in Harold Hill. We knew it was not going to be easy...

To begin with, feeling the pressure of the game, the children ended the first quarter 2-1 down. However, resilient and determined, passionate and driven, the children - of course - did not give up. Instead, they stepped on to the court ready to face the challenge in front of them.

And did they play well... Miss Taylor could not have been prouder of her team who supported and encouraged one another, showed exceptional discipline and applied their set plays. The children's commitment to training and practice truly paid off as they quickly proceeded to soar and deservedly finish the game on a 12-8 win.

Year 5-6 team, you were sensational on the court. Your passion for the game was clearly palpable. You are Harold Hill Netball Champions!!!

Congratulations to our superstars: Oliwier, Tia, Timi, Yemi, Ranita, Ja'Shayla, Jessie, Martin, Caydon, Sienna, Levan.

...and at least we can say, Netball's coming home!

Year 5 Fiver Challenge Sale TOMORROW!

Over the past few weeks, Year 5 pupils have been participating in the Young Enterprise Fiver Challenge. Young Enterprise is the UK's leading enterprise and financial education charity, helping young people to develop the skills they need for life and work. Pupils were pledged £5 and given one month to set up a mini business to create a product they could sell at a profit and engage with the local community. The children have been working extremely hard to hand-craft their products and we are very excited to say that the time is nearly here for them to open for business!

The products available to purchase are shown below and are priced between 10p and £3.00, with lots of special offers and multi-buys also available. We request that customers bring coins rather than notes to ensure that enough change is available throughout the sale.

Trading will begin tomorrow morning at 9.15am and the sale will run until approximately 11.30am. All children in school will have the opportunity to attend in order to purchase items. If you wish to attend at the same time as your child, the class timetable can be viewed at the bottom of this blog post.

Entry is free and everyone is welcome. The Year 5 team look forward to seeing you there!

Year 5 Star Writers

In Year 5 this week, our Star Writers are the wonderful Sergiu, Godswill, Diya and Armani.

The children worked incredibly hard to produce a fantastic letter to Macbeth, persuading him to either kill or not to kill King Duncan.

They took on board the features of persuasive writing, to ensure an effective letter was produced. They successfully used flattery, personal pronouns and rhetorical questions to truly engage Macbeth with their writing and hopefully encourage him to side with their character.

Well done Year 5, your writing was a pleasure to read!

Year 6 London Symphony Orchestra Trip

We believe in providing opportunities for pupils that widens their experiences.   Year 6 pupils were fortunate enough to be invited to an interactive interpretation of 'The Voyager' by the London Symphony Orchestra at The Barbican Centre in London.

Classical music and musicians may not play a heavy part in an average day for a 10/11 year old, so it was fascinating to see their amazement at the variety of instruments, the intricate conducting and the impressive collaboration the musicians demonstrated. Unfortunately, we were not able to take photos inside as there are strict rules in place at the Barbican.

My favourite instrument was the double bass because it sounded so magical and calming.
Bobby

I had a brilliant day! It has really inspired me to play an instrument. Maybe I should take up the violin!
Ella

We listened to the orchestra and observed how they changed pitch and tempo as well as participated in using hand signals to complement the mood of the music. We also sang 'The Voyager' to the tune of 'I vow to thee my country' by Gustav Holst which we have been learning in class!

The children had a brilliant day and thoroughly enjoyed themselves and consider themselves extremely fortunate to enjoy such a special day out.

Year 5 Star Writer

In Year 5 this week, our Star Writers are the wonderful Gavin and Frankie.

Both of the children worked incredibly hard to produce a fantastic introduction for their letter to Macbeth, persuading him to either kill or not to kill King Duncan (That is the question!)

They took on board the features of persuasive writing, to ensure a gripping start to their letter. They successfully used flattery, personal pronouns and rhetorical questions to truly engage Macbeth with their writing and hopefully persuade him to side with their character.

Well done Gavin and Frankie, we can not wait to read your finished letter!
