Year 5 Go Bonkers

 

This week Year 5 Got to enjoy Go Bonkers. They thoroughly enjoyed getting the time outside; being active; getting their heart rate raised; and stretching their legs. A popular choice was the helicopter and then the slides coming in at a close second. It was amazing to see children use their resilience and reciprocity when needed (especially those who were a little more hesitant at first).

Year 5 Super Science

 

This half term in Science we have been looking at the topic All Living Things. We have learned about life cycles and classifying animals into their groups! although we found amphibians the trickiest, sometimes confusing them with reptiles. We have demonstrated our knowledge in a variety of ways including posters, a mobile and a presentation! which we presented in front of the class. This was where we demonstrated two of our 4 Rs the first being reciprocity with working in teams and resilience when it came to standing up and presenting.

Year 5 Remarkable RE

This week in Year 5 we had looked at Religious Rituals in RE. In particular we had looked at Christianity and the ritual of baptism, although we did get to discuss some other rituals we have all experienced from different religions. An example of this was Zakat (The second pillar of Islam) and how there is the ritual of giving for charity. We had also looked into what the bible say's about baptism and how Christians use this as a source of wisdom and a teaching code for living. 

We had used Reflectiveness in making links back to previous learning and our Reciprocity value for sharing our own experiences of rituals we may have seen such as weddings, funerals and christenings.

Year 5 fantastique French

This week in Year 5 we had been discussing fashion in French. We had used two of our four R's in this lesson the first being our resourcefulness when we used our prior learning of colours to assist us with clothing. We were also able to make links to discuss what items were. 

For example Chaussures are shoes so Chaussettes must be socks. 

We also got to use our value of Reciprocity by sharing ideas and taking turns to practice speaking. 

We even wrote about our uniform in French. 

For example we wear a white shirt and grey and black chasseurs.

Magical Museum Moments

Magical Museum Moments

 In Year 5 we had the opportunity to visit the Science Museum on Tuesday. It was an exciting moment for the year group when we got to ride the District Line all the way into South Kensington. 

As a year group we got to enjoy the Space Gallery which ties into our Science topic.

We were excited when we got to try on astronaut gloves and try and pick things up with them. 

Most would agree the best part of the day was when we got to attend a Wonder Lab session. We got to see how sound vibrates with a speaker and some flames as well as a chemical change when Angie from Redwood got chosen to be a volunteer.

As a year group we had to demonstrate one of our 4 Rs which was Reciprocity by taking turns and sharing knowledge when we learned something new and wanted to share.

Remembrance Day - Year 6 Extra Work 13/11/19

Sofia, Summer Rose and Melisa made the most wonderful Remembrance Day pieces at home including: an acrylic pictures of a poppy field, writing the poppy story, facts about remembrance day and a poem. 

Well done girls! 

Year 6 Boys Keep Moving

Boys Keep Moving today was another inspiring session working alongside the boys as they develop their character. They listen so well and engage with thoughtful questions when they hear the inspiring stories.

Today we thought about being true to ourselves and believing in who we are. We went outside to build fires and enjoyed roasting bananas with chocolate in the middle!!

The boys showed their skills as they got a fire going and kept it alight in chilly and windy conditions.

It was lovely to hear the encouragement between the boys!

Year 6 PE

This week in PE Year 6 were challenged to use their reciprocity skills to make the name of their class. 

Working together, Palm and Acer children decided which children would make each letter of their class name and laid strategically on the floor of the hall for Miss Cook and Mr Potway to take a photo.

"We had to organise eachother and listen to one another, which was quite tricky at first," said Vinnie, Palm.

Elm edit their writing

Having spent the last few weeks writing their next episode of the Mai-long saga, the children in Elm class are now sharing and editing their work with their partner. The reflectiveness and reciprocity is evident as the children work hard together to make their writing even more exciting! 

Capacity and Measures Revision

In our sessions, we have been revising converting units of measures. First we had a class quiz and used the metric measures of capacity and mass. Afterwards we completed a matching game and solved capacity and mass word problems.

Finally we completed a long multiplication and division learning grid with added measurement word problems. Everyone showed great teamwork and reciprocity as they completed the challenging multi step word problems.
