OPAL 30.6.23

 OPAL- Outdoor Play and Learning

Rugby

After many requests received in the OPAL suggestion box; we are pleased to have now  introduced Tag Rugby to our lunch time activities.

The children all participated in an assembly first to clarify the rules required for play.

We even had a live demonstration by some of our keen players.

When playing Rugby at Broadford we will be playing by the following rules:

1. No contact

2. Only tag the person with the ball.

3. Throw the ball sideways or backwards.

4. To score you touch the ball on the floor.

The first sessions have already begun but check in with us next week to see how our Resilience and Reciprocity skills are developing.

As always we would appreciate any more resources you could add to our collection. So, do think of us if you are having a clear out. The items we are looking for will enable us to enjoy a wider range of play experiences during playtime (see below for some examples):

  • Bread crates
  • Cable drums
  • Metal/plastic pots and pans
  • Range of plastic utensils.
  • Guttering
  • Dressing up clothes
  • Blankets (to add to our den building)
  • Small World toys (Dinosaurs, cars etc..)
  • Scooters
  • Deck chairs/ camping chairs (all sizes)
  • Outdoor cushions

Please take any donations to the school office.

Sponsored Shave 12.7.2023

 Sponsored Shave

On Wednesday 12th July 2023, Rose Davy (Zoe's mum) will be letting children in Willow class cut and shave her hair off to raise money for charity.

Zoe (in Willow) has chosen to raise money for GOSH (Great Ormond Street Hospital) and Little Havens because of the amazing help they were to her brother Lucas when he was unwell and for the help they continue to provide for Zoe and her family. Lucas sadly passed away from Leukemia on 14th May 2022.

Zoe will be running the 'Sponsored Shave' and would like children in Willow class to bring in money to donate to the charities in exchange for being able to participate in the cut/ shave of her mum's hair. Any donations will be hugely appreciated!

If your child is not in Willow class but you would still like to donate to these incredibly important charities, then please send the donations in with your child in an envelope labelled 'Willow Class - Sponsored Shave'.

Thank you in advance for all of your support!

Year 5 Music

Year 5  have been taking part in their weekly Music lessons where they have been listening and appraising the song, ‘Dancing in the Street,’ by Martha and The Vandellas. They first had to brave the Gold challenge where they had to keep to a beat then they had to sing verses, the bridge and the chorus of the song. They did a great job!

'We had a great time doing this music lesson,' Charlie, Maple

“I enjoyed clapping to find the pulse of the song!” Aksanan, Willow

"It gets so fast! Ba,ba,ba. Clapping helped me." Angie, Redwood
