Year 5 Reading Festival Reflections!

 

What a joy it was to spend time reading together in weather conditions that were just right!

The children read to each other and to the adults present, with some parents sharing their favourite childhood stories and authors!

We created short stories using four random words and some groups had the opportunity to share. 

In conclusion, we recited this half term's poem - 'Hands on the Bridge' by Michael Rosen.

Thank you for all your support this year, in reading with the children at home!

Our hope is for all of the children to cultivate a love for reading that will last a lifetime!

Year 6 - Cloud Watching and a Sunny Sports Afternoon!

 Year 6 Activity Afternoon

Year 6 had a fantastic afternoon enjoying the lovely weather while taking part in a range of exciting activities. We began with some peaceful cloud watching before the children took on the role of hosts for a variety of events, including rounders, vortex throwing competitions, sprint races, basketball shootouts and chess matches.

The children showed great teamwork, enthusiasm and sportsmanship throughout the afternoon, encouraging one another and taking pride in leading each activity. It was wonderful to see everyone enjoying themselves while making the most of the sunshine.

A huge well done to all of Year 6 for their excellent behaviour and positive attitudes. They represented the school brilliantly and should be very proud of themselves!

  

Reminder : Year 5 Reading Festival Today

  

Dear Parents / Carers 

The UK Festival season started this month, so we are joining in with a Year 5 Reading Festival! Weather permitting, this will be held on our lovely school field. 

Please bring a blanket, a light healthy snack and your favourite childhood stories to read and enjoy with your child and some members of their class. 

Festival accessories (e.g. Face gems, hats and other hair accessories) are welcome!

Year 6's Final Wild Passport!

 

This week, Year 6 enjoyed a fantastic outdoor learning session where they made mini pizzas and delicious s’mores over an open fire. The children worked together safely and responsibly, showing excellent teamwork and enthusiasm throughout the activity.

A key focus of the session was our Respect value. Pupils demonstrated respect for one another by sharing equipment, listening carefully to instructions, and encouraging their peers. They also showed respect for the environment by helping to keep the area tidy and following fire safety rules.

Everyone had a wonderful time developing new skills, building confidence, and enjoying some tasty treats around the fire! 🔥🍕🍫

The Diary of an Evacuee - Year 5 Literacy

 

This half term of learning about WWII, through the lens of the characters in Letters from the Lighthouse, comes to a close.

The children were engulfed by the fact that this was once a reality for children their age and this week, they had the opportunity to write a diary entry from the perspective of a child being sent away to 'safety' during the war.

Our Year 5's used literary skills such as first person, adverbials of time and place and were intentional that the detail and tone of their writing matched both the diary style and their character.

Year 6 Get Crafty for the World Cup!

 

🏆 World Cup Fever Hits the Classrooms!

The corridors have come alive this week as our pupils kicked off their World Cup celebrations with a fantastic door-decorating competition. The creativity on display has been absolutely brilliant, with each class bringing a different corner of the globe to life right here at school.

Here is who is representing who:

• Almond Class have brought the vibrant spirit of Ghana to their doorway.

• Oak Class are channeling the fierce determination of Uruguay.

• Lime Class have turned their entrance into a celebration of Japan.

It wasn't just the doors getting a makeover! Showcasing some incredible fine motor skills and patience, the children also tried their hand at the traditional Japanese art of origami to create their own football shirts.

Year 6 Warm Up Their Leaving Assembly Voices!

The Year 6 children have begun preparing for their Leavers' Assembly, and excitement is already building!

This week, we introduced the assembly and shared some of the songs that the children will be performing. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm as they listened to the music and started to think about what the final performance will look like.

We have also begun discussing the different roles within the assembly, including speaking parts. The children have been considering how they can contribute and have shown great maturity and confidence when talking about performing in front of an audience.

Over the coming weeks, we will continue to practise the songs, develop the script, and rehearse the various roles. The Leavers' Assembly is always a special opportunity for the children to reflect on their time at primary school, celebrate their achievements, and create lasting memories before they move on to the next stage of their education.

We are looking forward to sharing more updates as preparations continue!
