Year 5 Star Writers

In Year 5 this week, our Star Writers are the wonderful Sergiu, Godswill, Diya and Armani. 

The children worked incredibly hard to produce a fantastic letter to Macbeth, persuading him to either kill or not to kill King Duncan.

They took on board the features of persuasive writing, to ensure an effective letter was produced. They successfully used flattery, personal pronouns and rhetorical questions to truly engage Macbeth with their writing and hopefully encourage him to side with their character.

Well done Year 5, your writing was a pleasure to read! 

Year 5 Star Writers

This week in Year 5, our star writers are: Joshua Kaylor, Grace Gore and Mikkileigh Williamson. 

All three children have made a phenomenal start on their NOT a fairytale stories...

Joshua has demonstrated his capabilities at building effective descriptions, though he has shown he is also able to add detail through a balance of speech. He has additionally achieved this through a range of showing not telling, tell:show 3s and by adding parenthesis. 

Grace has also constructed a fabulous non-fairytale, ensuring she has drawn upon original ideas, embedded humour throughout and included high levels of description so that her audience can truly imagine each scene. 

Similarly, Mikkileigh has put great effort into producing her story. She has worked exceptionally hard,  carefully considering the characteristics of her creature, the encounter with Ramona and how the princess will (hopefully) pass it!

Year 5 Star Writers

This week in Year 5, our star writers are: Martina Rensch, Oliwier Bartnik and Adam Murray.

Oliwier constructed a well thought through newspaper report, detailing the events of the missing TES awards. To engage his reader, Oliwier successfully embedded a range of sentence types, used parenthesis and thought about the impact of a captivating headline. 

Martina put bundles of effort into her report, ensuring that she carefully considered how to group her ideas and record the events in a coherent and clear manner. In order to achieve this, she used precise language, appropriately organised information into paragraphs and, although showed elements of bias, ensured her writing remained factual. 

Similarly, Adam produced a phenomenal newspaper article. He clearly used organisational features of an article, ensured he used formal tone throughout and drew upon direct and indirect sources to provide a wide range of perspectives in his article, which thus influenced his audience. 

Inspiring writing Year 5, we expect to see some of your writing published in real newspaper reports. We definitely have some journalists on our hands. 

Year 5 Star Writers

This week in Year 5, our star writers are: Haliya Gbadamosi, Sacha Raif and Lea Cerqueira.

Sacha made a fantastic start to his newspaper article, with careful consideration about the ordering of his lead paragraph. He evaluated his writing and edited it to improve the cohesion and ensure it hooked his readers' attention.

Similarly, Haliya made a great start on her newspaper article. A gripping subject to write about, Haliya successfully portrayed this in her lead paragraph briefly detailing the event. In her incident paragraph, she carefully selected appropriate sentence types, used parenthesis to add extra information and ensured she used a formal tone throughout. 

Lea has also started to produce her report on the stolen TES awards. She has carefully thought through and constructed her ideas into fluent and cohesive paragraphs, whilst ensuring she is able to sustain her audiences engagement throughout.

Redwood Star Writer

This week's star writer in Redwood is Megan Lockhart, who wrote a fantastic email of complaint to KFC. Megan clearly outlined the problem and also requested a solution, all while using formal language and standard English. Well done Megan!

Year 6 Star Writers

This week, our star writers in Year 6 are Savannah and Emmanuel

Savannah has started to write a brilliant flashback story based on a character who finds themselves in a humiliating situation at a party. She has focused on using a range of exciting vocabulary as well as different sentence openers to make it a fantastic read. Well done Savannah! 

In Larch, Emmanuel has also started to write a brilliant flashback story based on a character who has an unfortunate situation at a wedding. Emmanuel has used a range of openers, sentence structures and even tried to include some suspense into his writing. Well done Emmanuel.

Year 6 Star Writers

This week, our star writers in Year 6 are Sam Doidge (Redwood) and ..... (Larch).

Sam has achieved the prestigious star writer award because he wrote a fabulous non-chronological report on macaws. He concentrated very hard on his sentence structure and included a range of fantastic topical vocabulary. Well done Sam!

In Larch, Alisha March wrote a brilliant report on anacondas. Alisha focused on including interesting and exciting sentence openers as well as a variety of sentence types. She managed to portray the life of a snake extremely well. Well done Alisha!

Year 5 Star Writers - 09.03.18

Maple's Star Writer this week is Henry Cruz Kokonchev. He carefully researched the life of the famous author Jeremy Strong, enabling him to write a successful biography that engages his reader. Using organisational features (such as subheadings) and relative clauses to add detail, Henry's writing was fabulous!

The Star Writer in Elm Class this week is Lucian Bundy. He has successfully produced a clear and informative biography about Jeremy Strong. Throughout his writing Lucian has used relative clauses to provide his reader with additional information and varied sentence types to engage the reader. 

Willow's Star Writer this week is Cruz Carey. Cruz produced a phenomenal biography on Jeremy Strong. He not only managed to use relative clauses to add extra information,  used a range of openers and appropriate subheadings, but he also embedded humour. A great biography Cruz!

Year 6 Star Writers

This week our star writers in Year 6 are Sienna Nickson and Alin Botonog

Sienna has started writing a fantastic report on macaws which really brings these feathered friends to life. She has made an effort to include lots of different sentence types and a range of interesting and appropriate vocabulary. Well done Sienna!

Alin has produced a magnificent report on anacondas which will make your skin crawl with fear. He has used a variety of sentence openers, made use of advanced punctuation and even managed to include a relative clause. A great effort Alin!!

Year 5 Star Writers - 08.02.18

This week the Star Writer for Elm Class is Asroosh Valliani.  He has written a precise and fantastic non-chronological report about his own mythical creature. He has considered his reader when using organisational features and selecting appropriate sentence types.

In Maple Class this week, the Star Writer is Adebare Olugbodi. He carefully considered which sentence types to use in order to create the most vivid description of his repugnant ogre! Adebare also ensured he moved the story on using the narrator's voice.

In Willow Class, the Star Writer is Sonia Lewis. This week, Sonia has produced a fantastic non-chronological report.  She was precise, adding extra information which was relevant and sustained a formal tone throughout.

Year 6 Star Writers

This week, our star writer in Redwood is Arhaan Kaushal, who has begun to write a phenomenal non-chronological report on anacondas. Arhaan has been making sure that he includes the key features of the genre including relative clauses, brackets, subheadings and paragraphs. As a challenge, Arhaan has created his own success criteria and has selected his own sentence types and vocabulary that he wants to use. Well done Arhaan.

In Larch, the star writer is Ethan Borrell. He has used some fantastic openers and interesting adjectives in order to present his non-chronological report on Anacondas. Ethan has set himself the challenge to include a range of sentence types and I look forward to seeing these as he completes his writing. Well dome Ethan!!!

Year 5 Star Writers - 02.02.18

Sky Griffiths is Maple's Star Writer this week, thanks to her dedication and imagination in creating her ogre story. Not only did Sky ensure she used a range of sentence types to create vivid descriptions for her reader, she also completed additional writing at home to develop her story!

This week in Elm Class, the Star Writer is Trinity Hawkes. Trinity has thought carefully when choosing her vocabulary to describe the mythical creature in her adventure story. She has used her imagination to ensure her writing is original and engaging for the reader.

In Willow Class this week, the Star Writer is David White. David independently created a fantastic story, using his imagination to successfully portray each scene within it. He embedded relative clauses to effectively add extra (appropriate) information.

Year 6 Star Writers

This week our Star Writers in Year 6 are Emily Johnson and Charlie Green.

Emily has made a superb start to her non-chronological report on jaguars and has ensured that she has included all the key features such as relative clauses, exciting vocabulary and descriptive adjectives. Miss Chau is very impressed with her effort so far and cannot wait to read the finished version. Well done Emily!

Charlie has made a fantastic start to his non-chronological report on anacondas. He has used a range of openers, a relative clause and advanced punctuation. An excellent start Charlie and Mr Light cannot wait to read the rest.

Year 5 Star Writers - 26.01.18

The Star Writer in Willow class this week is Finley Redmond.  Finley used a great range of openers to vary his writing, adding interest for his reader. He also successfully used 'show not tell' throughout his writing to build imagery and engage his reader with Mai-ling's quest.

Maple's Star Writer this week is Timothy Dempsey.  Timothy spent considerable time evaluating the vocabulary he had used in his story and editing his writing to ensure it fully engaged his reader and gave a suitably gruesome depiction of the ogre!

This week's Star Writer for Elm Class is Mia Gallagher. Throughout her writing Mia has embedded a range of fronted adverbials to guide her reader through the story and show how time has moved on in the character's quest.

Redwood Star Writer

Our Star Writer in Redwood this week is Freddie Lewis. Well done Freddie for putting in so much hard work and effort into making your writing a success!

Freddie impressed Miss Chau because of the personal stamp he put on the biography he wrote, which really made it his own. He also ensured a range of openers and sentence types in his writing- hooking the reader in and making the writing come to life. The biography was a joy to read and Freddie should be very proud of his achievement. 

Year 5 Star Writers - 19.01.18

This week Elm Class's Star Writer is Daniel Tonu. Daniel has written a well thought through adventure story. He has considered how his word choices affect the reader and used a range of fronted adverbials to move the story on.  

This week in Willow Class, the Star Writer is Ranita Aryibi. Her adventure story oozed originality and used a range of sentence types to fully engage her reader.

In Maple Class, the Star Writer this week is Callum Watson.  He has carefully considered a range of different sentence types to increase the quality of his descriptive writing, ensuring his reader has a clear image of the hideousness of the ogre. 

Year 6 Star Writers

This week, our star writers in Year 6 are Tegan Sage in Redwood and Archie Patrick-Stuart from Larch. Both of these pupils impressed their teachers because they wrote fantastic biographies about Olaudah Equiano, a former slave who became free and went on to campaign against slavery for the rest of his life.

Tegan really worked on her spelling and use of WOW vocabulary which had a fantastic impact on her writing as a whole. She ensured that she used paragraphs to break up the key parts of his life and edited her work thoroughly too. Well done Tegan!

Archie has made a huge effort to concentrate in class and has ensured that he has followed the structure very carefully. Archie has also experimented with new words and this has made his biography on Olaudah Equiano a pleasure to read. Super work Archie!

Year 6 Star Writers

This week our star writers are Alfie Donnelly from Redwood and Ethan Gibbs from Larch. 

Mr Light was impressed by Ethan's use of relative clauses and the key features he remembered to include in his biography. Well done Ethan!

Alfie has been awarded star writer due to his hard work in class to write his biography. Alfie wrote chronologically and ensured that he edited his work carefully to make it his best. Well done Alfie!

Redwood Star Writer

Well done to Tony Marshall, who is this week's star writer in Redwood. Tony wrote a fantastic set of instructions on how to make a jam sandwich and included imperative verbs, adverbials of time, adverbs and an appropriate structure. Well done Tony- your instructions have made us all hungry!

Year 6 Star Writers

In Year 6, our star writers are Lacey Wall and Brandon Cohen. Their balanced arguments about whether animals should be kept in captivity or not were fair and unbiased. Lacey and Brandon included a range of sentence openers to portray the balance and included a variety of important points: including the risk of poaching to animals in the wild and on the other hand, the danger of animals being mistreated in captivity. Well done on very successful pieces of writing Brandon and Lacey!
