Commendable Computing

This week in computing we have been looking at human systems and computer systems. We have been able to use two of our 4Rs in this lesson. We had to use our Resourcefulness and our Reflectiveness, we accomplished this by using our prior knowledge (of what systems are) and reflecting on how this linked into our new knowledge - allowing us to make comparisons of what is either a human system or a computer system.

"I don't think I would feel safe, with the computer, sensor traffic lights... what if they stopped working" - Ryan, Almond

Oak
"Most systems still need humans to start it"- George, Oak

Lime

"the human system needs a human to work it? - like when we order online."- JJ, Lime

Year 6 - Magnificent Mathematicians

Year 6

Magnificent Mathematicians

This half term, Year 6 have been working on their; number and place value, addition and subtraction, factors and multiples. Pupils have shown resourcefullness by using a range of concrete manipulatives to show their understanding of different concepts. As we are in Year 6, and using concrete manipulatives in our SATs is not feasible, we have been working on how we can use the blank spaces on a test paper for jotting pictorial self-support.

To support your child with their maths learning; encourage them to use TTRS, ask them to teach you how to make numbers 10, 100 and 1,000 times bigger and use BBC Bitesize to revise any tricky concepts.

'I know how to draw place value charts to help me make a number 1,000 times larger or smaller. This is a strategy I can use anywhere.''  - Maggie, Birch

'Playing Prime Number bingo really taught us how to recognise Prime Numbers in a fun way- I didn't win though.' - Faizah O, Larch

'I know that a prime number has two factors' - Aliza, Redwood

 OPAL- Outdoor Play and Learning

Chalk Drawings

Wow, what a delight to walk out onto the playground this week and be greeted by such beautiful artwork.

The children have been very resourceful and spent a long time creating beautiful messages under the canopy.

They were reflective when considering the location.

" I am hoping the canopy will protect this design for awhile."

They are determined not to have them ruined by the rain!

Please have a look when you are here to pick up your children.

As always we would appreciate any more resources you could add to our collection. So, do think of us if you are having a clear out. The items we are looking for will enable us to enjoy a wider range of play experiences during playtime (see below for some examples):

  • Bread crates
  • Cable drums
  • Metal/plastic pots and pans
  • Range of plastic utensils.
  • Guttering
  • Dressing up clothes
  • Blankets (to add to our den building)
  • Small World toys (Dinosaurs, cars etc..)
  • Scooters
  • Deck chairs/ camping chairs (all sizes)
  • Outdoor cushions

Please take any donations to the school office.

Year 5 Residential - Mersea Island

We are delighted to inform you that the residential trip has been booked to the Mersea Centre for Outdoor Learning at Mersea Island for Year 5 pupils. Children will leave on Monday 17th June 2024 and return on Wednesday 19th June 2024.

During their stay at the Mersea Centre, children will be able to experience several fun and exciting activities. The opportunity to develop independence and leadership is second to none and a huge part of what we champion here at Broadford.

There will be an information meeting in the Charlton Hall (new hall) on Monday 2nd October 2023 at 3.30pm. After this meeting we will send home information about paying for the trip. Throughout the year, as the trip approaches,  we will send out more correspondence.

It is very important that you attend this meeting as we will be providing you with all of the information about the residential and payment options. We will also be able to answer any questions you may have.

We look forward to seeing you at the meeting on Monday 2nd October.
