Year 5 Rock Painting Joys
With inspiration from nature and things that the children find beautiful in their eyes, they were able to to turn a plain stone into an eye-catching piece of art.

Year 6 have been leading a whole-school Food Drive in support of the Harold Hill Foodbank. We asked for non-perishable food donations such as tins, pasta, rice, cereals, and long-life milk, and the response from our school community has been incredibly generous.
To raise awareness, Year 6 also designed posters to encourage everyone to take part. The winning posters were chosen to accompany the food donations on their journey to the foodbank.
Today, these Year 6 pupils visited the Harold Hill Foodbank to deliver all of the donations. They helped carry the bags and push our very large trolley, which was filled with the kind contributions from families across the school.
At the foodbank, pupils learned how the donations are sorted and distributed to support local families in need. They heard about the important role the foodbank plays in the community and saw first-hand how our school’s efforts will make a real difference.
We are very proud of our Year 6 pupils for leading this initiative and grateful to everyone who contributed to such a worthwhile cause.
Year 6 Go Cloud Watching
On Friday, Year 6 completed one of their '48 Experiences' which was to go outside and do some cloud watching.
Luckily we had an extremely cloudy sky so the children were able to lay and reflect on all of the different shapes and pictures they could make out with their peers.
"I can see a stegosaurus!" - Aaron - Redwood
"I did not know that clouds move." - George - Larch
"Watching the clouds move makes me feel like I can feel the earth rotating." Elyakim, Birch
Today, some children from Year 6 visited the local foodbank. They delivered the donations that we have received over the past couple of weeks. After delivering the food, the children helped the staff sort the items into different categories and completed a 'shop' for a single person's weekly provisions.
The children showed excellent reciprocity as they sorted the items and supported the staff in the foodbank.
It was wonderful to see our children helping out in there local community. Thank you for all your generous donations!
"I liked that we got to help out and take part in sorting out food as if we were a part of the foodbank." Karimah, Birch
Natural History Museum
This week in Year 5, we got to visit the Natural History Museum. We enjoyed seeing all that was on display, throughout the museum. We demonstrated our reflectiveness when we made links to our new Science topic, which is Living Things; animals and humans.
Year 5 Nature Walk - Friday 1st March 2024

Dear Parents and Carers,
On Friday 1st March 2024, Year 5 will be going on a Nature Walk around the local area. The trip is part of Broadford Primary School’s enriching experiences.
The children need to arrive promptly at school at 8.45am. We will be spending the morning walking around the local area and making observations. We will arrive back at school by lunchtime so children do not need to bring a packed lunch. Children are more than welcome to bring a bottle of water and snack to take with them for the morning.
Children are required to wear their school uniform on the day of the trip. The day will involve lots of walking therefore we suggest children wear trainers (or other comfortable shoes) and weather appropriate clothing as our day will be spent outside. If the weather means our trip cannot go ahead, it will be postponed.
We will require volunteers to accompany the classes. If you are able to help, please email the Year 5 inbox year5@broadford.havering.sch.uk .
Yours sincerely,
Year 5 Team
On Monday, Year 5 took part in a World War Two workshop which focused on the ARP (Air Raid Precautions). They started their day with a talk from Danny (the air raid warden) who told them about the lives of people during WW2, particularly within an air raid. Year 5 listened to air raid sirens and heard the various sounds people would have heard whilst in their shelters. The children demonstrated their resilience during this time and reflected on the lives of those involved in WW2. Danny also told them about the different types of bombs that were used.
The children then took part in four other activities including:
