Around the World in a Term Graduate

The last 10 weeks in Around the World have been absolutely fantastic. All the adults have had such fun travelling through all the countries with the children.

On Wednesday, the pupils graduated and shared their new learning with parents/carers. During the session they showed photos of themselves enjoying all the new activities.

These activities included:

  • aboriginal art
  • making Chinese dragons
  • decorating Alaskan totem poles
  • building the Great Pyramids of Giza (Egypt)
  • creating masks for the Carnival of Brazil
  • researching wildlife found in Africa
  • learning the national anthem of the U.S. A
  • making and taste testing Italian wrap pizzas
  • having afternoon tea in a traditional British way

It was such a joy to see the children immerse themselves in all the different activities and discuss with them what they had learned from each one.

Well done everybody. Don't forget to continue your travels in whichever way you can.

University of Broadford - Get Fit Fridays

University of Broadford - Get Fit Fridays.

This year in our University of Broadford course we have been doing Get Fit Fridays. We have been training hard to get our bodies fitter, healthier and stronger. We discussed and tried to measure our resting heart rate before each session to see if there were any changes.

First of all, we were given basic exercises with little equipment and we worked our way round in a circuit trying our best to do as much as possible. We were in pairs and showed reciprocity by helping one another. We then began adding in more equipment and were allowed to move around the exercises based on what we wanted to try and do. These included javelins, hurdles, weights, speed bounces, tennis rackets and much more!

After this, we designed our own workout with ten exercises that we were planning on teaching to our peers. We had to plan and prepare the equipment used and how we would explain it to others.

After rehearsing in smaller groups, we each then had a go at teaching the whole group of children our exercises. For some of us it was quite challenging but some of us enjoyed it and found it exciting!

We are so proud of this year's Get Fit Fridays graduates!

Around the World in a Term: What have we been doing?

So far in the Broadford University Around the World in a Term course, the students have been busy globetrotting and have already visited the USA, Brazil and France!

In Brazil, the pupils made vibrant and exciting carnival masks and learned about what makes the Carnival so exciting. The pupils used a range of resources to make their masks and can't wait to show them off.

The next country we visited was France. The children created Eiffel Tower pictures made of straw and got a unique opportunity to try Camembert cheese, Brie cheese, baguette, croissants and a hot chocolate.

I really enjoyed trying the French food. I hadn't eaten Brie or Camembert before but I gave them a try and really liked them!
