Pre-SATs Homework: Breathe and Relax!

The children have worked very hard this year to get to this point. As we head into the final weekend before the SATs, we would like them to relax and enjoy their time off; they deserve the rest! Therefore, we have given them some special homework this week: please see this below so you can support them with their very special task!

Pre-SATs Homework

Dear Year 6,

You have all worked so hard this year to get to this point.  You have grown in confidence and developed your skills and understanding brilliantly.  We are all very proud of you and everything you have achieved.  Remember, whatever happens next week, it doesn’t change the amazing people you are.

Of course, you want to do your best in your SATs, and we want that for you too.  You deserve to achieve what you want due to all of the hard work and effort you have put in.  Therefore, the time for revision is over!  You need to take this last weekend before SATs to rest, relax and be refreshed and prepared for the week ahead.

Below are some ideas to help you do this – have a go at one, some or none.  Whatever you do though, relax and have fun!!!

·      Go on a bike/scooter ride

·      Play a game with your family

·      Read a book/comic/magazine

·      Watch your favourite TV programme

·      Smile and laugh

·      Enjoy the sunshine and the outdoors

·      Eat sweets or ice-cream!

·      Go for a swim/walk/run

·      See your friends

·      Cook or make something

·      Do something arty

·      Dance

·      Do your favourite hobby

·      Try something you’ve never done before

·      Have a water fight (outside!)

·      Get muddy

·      Climb a tree (carefully – we don't want any broken arms for SATs!)

·      Learn to juggle

·      Play in the park

·      Take photographs in nature or somewhere that interests you

Remember, you deserve a break and need it.  Get a good night’s sleep each day before your tests and remember to stay calm.  Think about everything we have taught and told you over the past few months.  You will all be brilliant – we know you can do this!!  Enjoy your weekend and good luck for next week.

Yours sincerely,

All the Year 6 Team

Forest School in Year 5 - Session 1

Forest School in Year 5

Forest School is an approach to outdoor learning which encourages children to become independent, use their imagination, take appropriate risks within boundaries and initiate learning for themselves. Forest School offers a holistic approach, incorporating children’s individuality and develops their skills for lifelong learning. It explores the outdoors and the natural environment with practical, useful activities, building upon emotional and spiritual aspects of learning where self-esteem and self-confidence can grow and positive relationships with peers can be formed. We believe every individual can achieve what they want when they are provided with a safe, nurturing and engaging learning environment.

On Thursday 12th November, a group of Year 5 children participated in the first of a series of Forest School sessions on site at Broadford. Each half term we will be working with a different group of children in Year 5.

They chose their Forest School name and made an identity necklace, where they had the option to use a palm drill to make a hole in the wooden disc.
The children particpated in a co-operative fun game using tail balls, which aided the children in learning of 'the flight' of the ball as its colourful tail helps to develop eye tracking skills.
To encourage the children to take ownership of their learning, they also spent time collecting natural resources for future sessions. Towards the end of the session the children reflected on their experiences whilst enjoying a drink and a biscuit.

The children were very excited to be a part of the group and said that they thoroughly enjoyed the session. Jackal and Jungle Owl were pleased with how the children participated in this first session.
