Sensational sea creatures!

This afternoon, some Year 6 children participated in a special textiles workshop making sea creatures. The session was led by Miss Robson from Sanders' school and the children used various resources such as felt and thread to create their fabrications.

I liked this workshop because I have tried something new and it was so enjoyable to learn how to sew.

I loved this sea creature workshop because I love doing art and it gave me more experience with sewing. I've gained some great ideas for the future!

Translation

This morning, Mrs Gradley's group were drawing and translating shapes on the first quadrant and four quadrants of the co-ordinate grid. The children used vectors to show the movement of a vertex, left, right, up or down.
In class, the children had a choice of activities to complete. Some used the my maths app and worked through the lesson and worksheet; others completed chilli challenge tasks and mastery challenges.

Four Quadrant Learning Grid

This morning, Mrs Gradley's numeracy group were completing tasks based on describing position on the full coordinate grid (four quadrant). The children had to complete a variety of challenges including drawing shapes and finding the midpoints and points where the diagonals intersect and finding missing vertices of shapes and plotting the points.

Nets of Cubes Challenge

Following on from yesterday's session, the children completed a 3D shape Tarsia puzzle. They had to use their prior knowledge of shapes to complete a range of questions based on the properties of 3D shapes.
Next, to consolidate their visualising nets of cubes skill, the children played a nets of cubes flash card competition. In groups of 3, they had to decide whether each net made a cube and competed against each other to earn points.

Lastly, the children had to complete challenges and using their nets of cubes,  visualise where specific symbols and pictures would need to be drawn onto the faces of each net.

Math Challenges in Palm

This morning, Year 6 are completing team math challenge tasks. The tasks started with a multiplication and division learning grid. The children had to create their own number sentences, answer word problems and examine each other's work.
Afterwards, the children had to complete a Mega Block challenge. They were given a 2D picture of a building structure which that had to complete in their teams. However, only 1 person could look at the photo at a time.

Capacity and Measures Revision

In our sessions, we have been revising converting units of measures. First we had a class quiz and used the metric measures of capacity and mass. Afterwards we completed a matching game and solved capacity and mass word problems.

Finally we completed a long multiplication and division learning grid with added measurement word problems. Everyone showed great teamwork and reciprocity as they completed the challenging multi step word problems.
