Year 5 Meet The Highwayman !

This week in Year 5 we have been reading the Highwayman poem. We have been considering a play adaptation from the poem. We have used our resilience to navigate our way around the vocabulary, whilst embracing the dialect that is throughout the poem. We have thoroughly enjoyed immersing ourselves in our own drama activities while researching features of a play script.

"I like the story line and the language for example bonny lass"-Maya-Rose, Redwood

“I think the most interesting part in the poem is when Bess shoots herself because it’s a strange way of trying to help the highwayman.” Nikola, Willow

"It was interesting to sequence all the events of the poem," Elisa, Maple

Year 6 become actors!

Role play by Year 6

What a week we have had! We have returned to school after half term and we're doing it with confidence and… erm…arrogance.

Don’t worry, that was their job!

The children had to portray the ghastly Guy of Gisborne from our text. We had to study the character’s personality and become him using improvisation in our  role plays.                  This will guide our writing when producing work in first person based on the story, Robin Hood and the Golden Arrow.

Peter Pan

This winter, we are being treated to an all-singing, all-dancing performance of Peter Pan. The children are engrossed with the actors' vibrant costumes, interesting voices and enthusiastic singing hand dancing. Even the adults were up dancing!

Hobbitses in the school Precious....

On Wednesday the school enjoyed a performance of The Hobbit.

After the performance ended, the year 6's were lucky enough to attain a back stage pass to meet the cast and see the work behind the scenes.

30 seconds. Did you know that is the time it takes the cast members have to change their costumes?

The scenery was created with canvases with non-cracking paint attached to clips so that they could be rolled up and changed with ease. Their bases were also on wheels so that they could be simply turned around.

Special effects included: lightening strikes, smoke machines, pyrotechnics (flames) and reverberation (echoed speech) were just some of the techniques used within the play.

Coconut and palm had great fun pretending to be Golum, using the reverbaration microphone, to repeate some Golum phrases.... Oh look Precious at all the children.....

The Hobbit

Watching a performance of J.R.R. Tolkien's 'The Hobbit', Year 6 were thoroughly enthralled. As they followed Bilbo Baggins on an adventure taking them face to face with goblins, trolls and a creature called Gollum.

Flashback role play

During literacy we have been looking at a story which involves friendships. To gain a better knowledge of the characters thoughts and feelings we planned and performed a role play between 2 of the main characters.
