Year 5 and 6 Secure Second Place!

This morning, a group of excited young athletes took part in an action-packed NFL Flag Festival that brought fun, energy and a great sense of teamwork to the field. The first half of the session featured a carousel of skills, where the children rotated through a series of engaging drills and activities run by experienced NFL Flag players - an amazing opportunity for them to learn from the best! 

The second half saw the kids put their new skills into action with a series of competitive matches. We are incredibly proud of Team Broadford, who showed fantastic determination and team spirit throughout the day, finishing in an impressive 2nd place after winning three games, drawing one and losing just one.

 What a brilliant achievement!

Year 6 Sports Day – A Celebration of Team Spirit and Achievement

We are thrilled to share that our Year 6 students had an unforgettable Sports Day! The sun was shining, and the energy was palpable as students participated in a variety of events, showcasing their athleticism, teamwork, and school spirit.

From classic races to creative challenges, every child gave their best effort, cheering each other on and celebrating every success. It was heart-warming to see the camaraderie and enthusiasm that filled the day.

Year 5 and 6 Cross Country Competition

This week, some children from Year 5 and 6 participated in a cross country competition at Stubbers Activity Centre, Upminster. 

The race was 2km and each race had 250 runners. The children from Broadford Primary School ran so well! We are extremely proud of the reilience they showed when competing and the reciprocity they demonstrated when supporting their peers.

On Wednesday morning, some children from Year 5 and 6 participated in the Quad Kids competition at Hornchurch Sports Stadium. 

The children represented their school beautifully as they showed huge resilience with each and every event they took part in. 

During the day they participated in various events including: 75m sprint, 600m track run, long jump and vortex throw.

Drapers Sports Day - Thursday 6th June 2024

Drapers Sports Day

Yesterday, forty children from Years 2 to 6 participated in the Drapers Sports Day competition at Drapers Academy. 

The children represented their school beautifully as they showed huge resilience with each and every event they took part in. The events included: tug of war, bean bag throw, vortex throw, sprints, relays and long jump. The pupils displayed their reciprocity skills as they not only supported their team mates but children from other schools too.

Year 2 Multi-Sports Festival

 Year 2 Multi-Sports Festival 

Yesterday, some of our Year 2 children attended a multi-sports festival at a nearby primary school. The children did a round robin of six different activities such as a relay race, hurdles, beanbag throwing, agility, balancing and beanbag running. After each activity, they received a sticker in order to complete a certificate. The children showed fanastic reciprocity as they worked together in their team and supported one another.

Healthy eating competition

As part of their first job as School Council, our representatives launched a 'healthy eating poster competition' to promote and explain the importance of a healthy balanced lifestyle across our school.

We had a phenomenal turnout of posters; beautifully decorated, extremely eye catching and full of important messages. However, after studying the posters closely, our represenatives decided that Ellie-Mae Wager and Ella Nash deserved first place as not only were their posters aesthetically pleasing, but also informative. Today, our school council representatives, Ty and Summer Rose, announced this in assembly.

This poster will accompany us on our first alliance cluster meeting, where we will continue to discuss healthy eating and how we can promote this in our school. For their masterpieces, the winners also received a cookbook to further inspire a healthy lifestyle.

Try, try again

Exciting new... Years 3-6 have entered into a Writing Stars Poetry Competition. This entails writing a poem on one of our 4 learning powers, resilience! It must be titled 'Try, try again.' However, it is entirely up to the children how they choose to approach the poem: it could be an acrostic poem, it could be a rhyming poem, it could be free verse.

Judging the poems produced are not only laureates and poets, but two very famous footballers, Frank Lampard and Yannick Bolasie. 

The winner of this competition has some very exciting treats in store: an exclusive awards ceremony, a poet/author visit for our school and (perhaps most excitingly) Premier League kit, the Premier League trophy and their poem read out on TV by a Premier League footballer.

Classes have received writing lines to construct their poems on. If they have not, send them to Miss Taylor in Willow where they can retrieve more. The deadline for this competition is Friday 15th December.

Premier league stars? Poetry competition?

Today, Years 3-6 were introduced to a poetry competition that is being held in Broadford, though not your usual poetry competition. No. This is a poetry competition with a twist...

It's the 'Writing Stars Poetry Competition!' Still not enticed? Well, let me tell you more.

This competition asks you to produce a poem based on the theme of resilience (one of our 4 learning powers), entitled Try, Try Again. Now, a lightbulb may have just flashed in your minds, as you may recognise that as the title of the poem used in th TV advert for Premier League Primary Stars, encouraging you to work hard and to never give up.

But yes, you did read correctly... A poem used on TV for Premier League Primary Stars. That leads me to my next point...

The excitement does not stop there, as you have not yet heard the prizes and awards for winning this poetry competition. Now prepare yourself.

Apart from the prestige of winning this competition, the children of Broadford could potentially win:

a school visit by a children’s author or poet, the Premier League Trophy (wow), Premier League football kit (WOW), the winning poem will be read aloud by a Premier League star and captured on film (double WOW) and an invitation to an exclusive award ceremony!

At school today, the children received writing lines to record their poems on. (If they did not, send them to Willow class where they can receive more). All they have to do now, is sculpt their poems.

The criteria:

Poems should be no more than 20 lines or 150 words 

They should be on the theme of resilience.

You can continue the Try, Try Again poem or start a new poem.

Poems can be of any structure and don't have to rhyme.

Finally, poems must be returned to Miss Taylor (Willow Class) by Friday 15th December LATEST, though if you want to hand them in earlier, that would be equally fantastic.

Netball champions

Yesterday afternoon, Broadford encountered their first netball match of the year. Obtaining the cluster winner title last year, the bar was set high for this years team, who similarly want to bring home gold. Thanks to our captain, Sienna, and vice, Levan, the children were thoroughly warmed up and motivated before taking the court.

Maintaining their reputation, Broadford managed to beat Harold Court 10-0. An absolutely fantastic result. Let's hope it continues throughout the season, and possibly take our score even further, maybe 20-0 next time? 

Well done to our superstars: Tia, Levan, Sienna, Oliwier, Jessica S, Caydon, Ja'Shayla, Adebare and Martin. A very special well done goes to our lovely Tia, who managed to earn the title of player of the match!

Havering Primary Schools Mathematical Quiz

Our Year 6 team are currently taking part in a competition led by Hall Mead School's Faculty of Mathematics. The most able mathematicians across the borough come together to solve problems involving shape,number and measure.

Spelling Bee at Drapers Academy

Tolu, Dylan, Yinka and Kingsley arrived at Drapers Academy read to take on the spellers from the other schools for the prestigious title of best spellers on the hill!

They certainly put up a fight!

After the individual and speedy speller rounds two schools were knocked out and it came down to three, Pyrgo Priory Primary School, St Ursula’s Junior School and us! The competition was really on fire!

In the end, it was head to head between our KS2 spellers and St. Ursula’s. Tension was running high in the hall. Eventually the adjudicator ruled a draw.

Well done to all of the spellers, you could not be beaten!

Yesterday saw the final round of the spelling bee. The whole school round means that the class winners compete against each other for one of the prestigious places in the key stage 1 and key stage 2 spelling teams.

The Big Pedal 2014

A massive well done to everyone who contributed to making 1 million journeys to school during this year's Big Pedal. All of the journeys have now been logged and are still being counted up! Results will be available after 3.30pm today.

This is a new record, so every school, pupil, parent and staff member should be really proud.

Look out for Broadford’s results tomorrow. Thank you to everyone who took part. 

 

 

The Big Pedal 2014 - 3-14 March

The Big Pedal is a giant inter-school cycling and scooting competition that encourages children, teachers and parents to choose two wheels for their school journeys.

This year’s competition will span 10 school days, from 3 to 14 March, and the more children who scoot and cycle each day, the more points your school will earn. Schools right across the UK will be competing against each other, and the competition is weighted according to the size of the school, so everyone has a fair chance to win.

There are more than 20 fantastic prizes up for grabs, including bike and scooter stunt displays, children’s bikes, scooter parking and more!

This year’s event features new and souped-up versions of the popular wheelie characters – there are 10 to collect, one for each day of the event. Each day we will log the school’s daily result on the Big Pedal website and will be rewarded with a wheelie to add to your own Big Pedal wallchart. The characters’ design will depend on the number of people who cycled and scooted that day, and the aim is to fill the wallchart with as many super-strength, super-powered, superhero wheelies as possible!

BBC Radio 2 Writing Competition 500 Words

Do you get bored during the school holidays?

Are you eager to learn more?

Are you hungry for a challenge?

 

 

See if you can write a story in 500 words. It can be a story about anything you like, love, comedy, horror or mystery, it’s completely up to you, the only rule is that you use 500 words. Not 499 or 501 just 500 words. This competition has been launched by Chris Evans at BBC Radio 2. There are lots of reasons to enter 500 words. You could win Chris Evans height in books (1.9 metres) or hear your story read by a superstar narrator live on the radio to millions of people. But the most important reason is to write a brilliant story in 500 words. The judges want to read what you come up with, and they absolutely promise to read EVERY SINGLE ONE.
