Stubbers: Woodland Walk & Breakfast

Last night the children enjoyed a long woodland walk through Upminster, being careful not to be seen by the "Drop Bears" in the woods. After a good sleep and a very early wake up call, they are showered and now enjoying a hearty two course breakfast before beginning their activities. More updates later. 

Year 5 Stubbers

Year 5 have arrived at Stubbers and are currently tucking into a delicious chicken dinner. They have unloaded their bags into their tents... Everyone is very happy with their groups! Tonight we have a woodland walk to look forward to. Updates soon. 

Rocket Poppers Investigation

Last week,  Palm class completed their Effervescent Rocket Popper Investigation. The children investigated how the amount of effervescent tablet effected the speed of which the tablets reacted with water. 

The water reacted with the effervescent tablet causing a fizz as it produced carbon dioxide gas. When the lid was placed on the film canister (rocket) the gas became trapped and put pressure on the lid of the canister. As the pressure built up, the canister departed from the lid and shot up into the air. This is similar to the way that a rocket is launched except fuel instead of effervescent tablets and water are used.

Elm research the Ancient Greek gods and goddesses

Today, the children in Elm are putting their historical research skills to use and are discovering facts about the gods and goddesses of Ancient Greece.

Coconut music lesson

Over the past few weeks Coconut class have been learning about 'Gamelan' music and instruments. Gamelan is a group of instruments, usually tuned percussion, that are handmade. The Gamelan originated in Java and Bali and has been around for hundreds of years. 

We have been looking at cyclic patterns which are rhythmic patterns repeated over and over again. The group improvise using different instruments and also, this week, we have been looking at the way the group 'decorate' the cyclic pattern.

The piece of music that we have been working on this week is called 'Bendrong' it is said that it's intention is to lift a spell under which a river crab 'Yuyu KangKang' is held working in a swamp!
