Year 5-Macbeth workshop

This week Year 5 have been exploring Shakespeare's Macbeth as part of our unit focus on persuasive writing and plays. The children have researched and produced a fact file about Shakespeare's life, read a shortened Macbeth script and used their reciprocity skills to act out the scenes collaboratively.

In addition to this, Year 5 were involved in Shakespeare Rewired workshop by Sky Blue theatre. This interactive and highly engaging workshop centered on the children acting out each role in Macbeth. The play was complete with sound effects, costumes and a live audience!


Pupils had a fantastic time participating in this workshop and we thank Sky Blue theatre for bringing such enthusiasm and theatre to Broadford.

Evie in Elm said, "The workshop was so much fun, children got to dress up and act!" 

Adam in Elm said, " It was an amazing experience and very funny."

Fayo in Maple said, " I thought the show was very fun! Even though killing other actors was quite gruesome-I loved that I got the opportunity to be Macbeth!" 

Tyler in Elm said, "Acting it out, really helped me to learn the story of Macbeth!"

 

Fallon in Maple said, "It felt amazing being the witch and it felt amazing everyone watching us in the year group."

The staff in Year 5 were incredibly impressed by the children and their enthusiasm for Shakespeare. They were all engaged and represented Broadford Primary School by showing reciprocity towards each other and using their reflectiveness skills.

 

Year 5- Reading Stay and Learn Information

Firstly we wanted to say a huge thank you to all of the parents, carers and family members who attended the reading session today.

We started the session by discussing the year 5/ year 6 national curriculum Reading objectives (please see below)


Word Reading
understand the meaning of new words that they meet.

Comprehension
recommending books that they have read to their peers, giving reasons for their choices
identifying and discussing themes and conventions in and across a wide range of writing
making comparisons within and across books
discussing their understanding and exploring the meaning of words in context
drawing inferences and justifying inferences with evidence
predicting what might happen from details stated and implied
summarising the main ideas
discuss and evaluate how authors use language, including figurative language, considering the impact on the reader
participate in discussions about books that are read to them and those they can read for themselves, building on their own and others’ ideas and challenging views courteously
provide reasoned justifications for their views


Our focus for the session was about inference.

Next, we shared a fabulous website called the 'Literacy shed' to inspire the children at home: LINK
On the website the Literacy Shed is home to a wealth of visual resources: music videos, animations, images and writing prompts.

We looked at the music video: LINK

We asked the parents and children the following questions and explained that we can use our inference skills all the time!

• Watch the first 20 seconds - how is the girl feeling? What makes you think that? What might she be doing?
• Pause just before a minute - how has the girl's feelings changed? Why do you think that is? What might she have lost? What could she do now that may help?
• Pause again at 1.42 - Has the girl's feelings changed even more now? Why do you think that maybe?
• Once the giraffe appears - are you shocked why? How does the girl feel now?
• Write a description of the giraffe - what does it look like? smell? feel?
• Research and write a non chronological report on giraffes.
• Write a set of instructions for keeping a giraffe as a pet.
• If you could choose any animal in the world to keep as a pet, what would it be and why? What would you do with them? How would you need to change your house to take care of it?

Rev. Rich is hosting a ‘Dads and Kids Sports’ Night’. 

It’s sure to be a fun evening for dads and their children.

We are inviting children from Year 3,4,5 and 6.

All Dads (Uncles,Granddads) are invited to come and have some sporting fun.

All abilities and fitness levels welcome.

Come ready to enjoy an evening of sharing sport with your children.
