Photos and Congratulations on the Year 5 Great Expectations trip

As promised, here are some more pictures of the Year 5 trip yesterday to the Vaudeville Theatre. The children went to see a production of Great Expectations in line with their literacy studies. The children were even fortunate enough to meet two of the stars of the play, Taylor Jay-Davies (young Pip) and Josh Elwell (Mr Joe Gargery). They said they spotted the children in the audience and thought they were fantastic!

It is worth noting that SIX individual members of the public that encountered our children, both on public transport and in the theatre, made a point of approaching staff to comment on the exceptional behaviour that our children displayed. They represented our school with such pride, and we really could not have asked any more of them.
One kind lady remarked, "My husband and I were watching the children through the entire performance and we couldn't fault them once. Superb!"
Another commented, "What a credit these children are to you all. We couldn't believe that such young children studied and followed such a complex story so sensibly and with great interest."
It is so good to see that other people are noticing what we knew about our children for such a very long time. They even took on the might of public transport rush hour without a single groan!
Well done to all children that went on both of the trips. We are all incredibly proud of you.
Also, thankyou once again to all staff that accompanied the children. It couldn't have been done without you.

Out of this planet: Maple investigate the planets

This afternoon, the year 5s and 6s in maple class braved the weather and took what they had learnt about the planets, moon and sun outside.They explored how the planets orbit around the sun and why Pluto takes longer to orbit than mercury. Here are some pictures of our lesson.

Great Expectations School Trip

Today the Year 5 students from Maple and Willow travelled on an adventure to see Great Expectations. We had a brilliant time and thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience. The play was very different to the book and film. The most enjoyable part of the play was when Miss Havisham met her death with an explosion of fire on the stage.It took a very long time to get here and the trains were very busy. Thank you to the adults for guiding us through the chaotic stations.  Junior commented on the experience as being "the best trip I have been on"

Year 5 Set Off For the Theatre

Year 5 have successfully set off for the theatre. Today they are off to the Vaudeville Theatre to see a production of Great Expectations.
They are all VERY excited. We will keep you posted.

Willow Learn The Order of the Planets

Willow class were today learning about the order of the planets in our solar system. You can listen to the order, as explained by Samantha Simpson, by clicking on the link below. They also found out some fascinating facts,  including; The Sun isn't actually a planet, it is a huge burning ball of gas...also known as a star! Pluto is no longer classified as a normal planet, it is a dwarf planet.

Miss Reynolds' Maths

When Miss Reynolds' maths class identified their worded problems target as "extracting the number sentence from the problem", she decided that this was a target for the great outdoors.

The children were given the challenge of matching 9 worded problems to number sentences that were carefully hidden around the field. They had to find them all...in less than 15 minutes!

The children demonstrated great reciprocity in aiding one another to complete the challenge. And they were highly successful! Another target achieved! Well done everybody!
