Mr Gore has made a superb start to year 5! Not only has he been working incredibly hard in class, but he has continued to conduct his own work at home. As seen in the picture, Archy has gone home to review some key vocabulary: studying their definitions, their word class and putting them into sentences. Fabulous for your writing Archy.

Archy also deserves a special shout out after today, because he reached GOLD! In class, he has been challenging himself and avoiding the big L (lazy) behaviour. This had paid off, as today in his maths test, he achieved a phenomenal 37/40, in his spellings, he hit jackpot with 21/21 and he went home as our dojo winner! 

All you need to work on now is remembering to pick up your lunchbox at the end of day...

This week in Willow, our star writer is the phenomenal Ananya Salla! After finalising our stories, Ananya managed to successfully portray the perspective of Pandora in Pandora's Box! She was able to use a range of openers, avoiding repetition (which can become boring for our reader), chose appropriate adjectives and powerful verbs to build description and used a range of sentence lengths to create suspense! Ananya, you made your writing a pleasure to read. I look forward to reading your next piece of writing!

Year 6 Spellings: 2nd- 6th October

Below are the Year 6 Spellings for this week. The weekly test will be on a Friday and children should hand their books in on this day too.   Pupils are expected to practice their spellings for 15 minutes per day as well as practice their times tables and read at home. Children are encouraged to search for the definitions of the words and use them in sentences in order to gain merits for their trackers.

Macmillan Winners and Money Raised

Well today was the most successful Macmillan Coffee Morning that Broadford has ever seen! A very big thank you to all those parents, carers and family members who came and had some cake in aid of Macmillan as well as those who baked or donated cakes to be sold.

Our Year 6 pupils did a fabulous job of serving cake and squash and encouraging others to try their luck in the cake raffle and guess how many sweets are in the jar. 

The winner of the amazing chocolate explosion cake (made specially by Mrs Smith) is: Sam Doidge

There were 83 sweets in the jar- and two children guessed correctly: Alfie Donnelly and Lily O'Leary. They will share the sweets between them.

I really enjoyed helping out at this event to raise money for such an important charity. Every penny we made will make a difference.

And finally..... The amount of money raised was an amazing..... £855.44!

What a fantastic amount of money for a charity that is close to so many of our hearts.

Negative immersion

Our new topic in maths is negative numbers. Today, the children had their first immersion lesson, really getting stuck in to negative numbers. Using the carousel approach, the children had the opportunity to explore some interactive games on the iPads, compete in a game of tug of war, problem solve with a lighthouse puzzle and connect their loop cards.

Particularly with the loop cards today, the children showed true resilience. As you can see Chloe Kirk is powering through, whilst Isabelle Munford tries to soothe her sore head! Great work today, I hope it continues tomorrow!
