Elm investigate the relationship between surface area and rates of reaction

During the last two mornings, all the children in KS2 have rotated around all the classrooms in order to conduct lots of different experiments. In the Year 5 classrooms, the children have been exploring how rates of reaction are affected by surface area and concentration of solution. The children were all able to explain that the larger the surface area, the quicker the reaction.
The children also discovered that the oxalic acid on the rhubarb reacted with her potassium manganateb solution to create carbon dioxide and water, hence why the solution changed colour!
