Year 5 have had a fabulous start to Summer 2 by continuing their work on fractions in Maths. Today they have been focusing on equivalent fractions and have created their own fraction walls!
Fraction walls are a great way to compare different fractions, as well as determining which fractions are equivalent to each other. The children started with strips of paper representing a whole and then folded and cut them into equal parts to represent other fractions such as 1/2, 1/4, 1/8 and 1/16.
They then used their assembled fraction walls to find equivalent fractions.
"I know that 2/4 is equivalent to 1/2 and that 2/16 is the same as 1/8." - Brooke
"An equivalent fraction is a fraction that is worth the same amount as another fraction." - Ellie
