Year 5 Go Wild!

Wild Passport Day has finally came round for our Year 5's. They braved the chilly weather to explore in nature!

In the morning, the children learnt how to make a Nordic sling bracelet using woolen string and wooden discs to act as a weight. The children worked in pairs and communicated with each other as they swung the string towards each other to form the Nordic sling bracelet.

Once made, the pair tied knots and were able to cut them in half so that each person could take home their beautiful creation.

'It was freezing and fun. That session felt like the shortest hour of my life!' - Madeline, Larch.

'This made me very happy because I haven't done anything like that before!' - Nina, Larch.

'For my religion, I wear something that has a tassle that looks like this. I will see if I can add it to it!' - Adyaan, Larch.

Redwood were lucky enough to have a lovely sunny day for their WILD passport. The children were also creative with their clove hitch knot picture frames. The orienteering was a great chance to run around and attempt the beat their last times on the course.

The weather unfortunately meant Birch had to have their WILD Passport day indoors but it was still packed with fun! We used clothes rails to hang our threads when braiding and created some excellent frames in class. When it came to orienteering, we were able to use our retrieval skills to find the correct location on the map and find the code we needed. The teachers even got involved in the fun too.

'I couldn't stop laughing when our threads got tangled' - Qhaleed, Birch

'We completed all three courses for orienteering' - Callissya, Birch
