Year 6: Being Assertive in PSHE
Speak Up- Stand Tall:
Year 6 Learn The Importance of Assertiveness
In PSHE this week, Year 6 have been learning the importance of being assertive—speaking up confidently and respectfully.
The children created posters showing the difference between passive, aggressive and assertive behaviours, and then brought their ideas to life through drama. They acted out real-life scenarios and practised using calm, confident communication.
Here’s what some of our pupils said:
- “Being assertive means you don’t let people walk all over you, but you don’t shout either.”
- “I liked acting out problems because it helped me see how to fix them in real life.”
- “It feels good to speak up without being rude.”
- “You can still be kind and still stand your ground.”
We’re so proud of how mature and thoughtful Year 6 were. They’re learning to find their voice—and use it in a positive way!

Year 5 DT
In year 5 this term, we are going to make a bag in DT. The children will be learning how to cut a template out of material, stitch them together, create a fold fastening or handles, and then to embellish them with fabric paint, appliques and maybe even some jewels! If you have any non-stretchy material (duvets, pillow-cases etc) that you are happy to donate to school, please send it in with your child. The children are really looking forward to this project of using recycled material.
As always, thank you for your support.
The year 5 team.
