Year 6 - All About Sikhism

This half term, Year 6 have been learning about Sikhism; most importantly, why are Gurus important and what do they teach Sikhs? Pupils have had the opportunity to explore Guru Nanak and Guru Arjan and we will then be looking at the Gurdwara and important values in Sikhism. Throughout the unit, pupils have/will have the opportunity to share their own beliefs and make comparisons / links between Sikhism and other religions.

How to Be a Bus Legend

How to Be a Bus Legend

Now that more and more pupils are catching the bus to get to and from school, here are some important reminders from our JTA's (Junior Travel Ambassadors), after spending some time with the MET Police.
  • Sit Right Near the Driver: If the bus is empty or it’s getting dark, sit downstairs right behind the driver. If someone is being mean or making you feel scared, DO NOT get off the bus in a random place. Stay right where you are near the driver because they can call for help on their radio and the bus has cameras everywhere!

  • Show That Green Zip Card: Always have your Green Zip Card ready in your hand or a handy pocket before the bus even gets there. If you have forgot it, it is okay - just tell the driver and they will let you on. Never use someone elses.

  • Don't Be a "Phone Zombie": It’s fun to play games or listen to music, but keep your phone tucked away in your bag or pocket when you don't need it. If you have headphones on, keep the volume low so you can still hear what’s going on around you. If you need to use your phone, check it by a wall or window.

  • Know Your Stop: Before you even leave your house, tell someone and check when the bus is coming so you aren't standing around at the bus stop forever. Try to stand under the streetlights where people can see you!

These messages were brought to you by Peace, Jacob, Eesa, Elkah, Evie, George, Dunsin and Oscar.

Year 6's Amazing Artwork

This half term, Year 6 have completed an art project over two weeks which will then be shared with parents.

The level of attention and detail the pupils have put into their artwork has been inspiring. We looked at different artists and learnt what inspires them, practised drawing our portrait, built a layered background and then put all of the finishing touches together.

On the 10th and 11th February we will be holding an 'Art Gallery' of the children's framed pieces of work! You will also be able to purchase them - more details to come.

Get Ready to Rock! NSPCC Number Day – 6th February

 Get Ready to Rock!

NSPCC Number Day – 6th February

On Friday 6th February, our school will be taking part in NSPCC Number Day, a fun-filled event that celebrates maths and a charity that focuses on helping to keep children safe.

This year, we’re turning up the volume and bringing the energy by becoming our Times Table Rockstars! Everyone is invited to dress as a Times Table Rockstar for the day. Think bright colours, funky outfits, sunglasses, wigs, or anything that gives off superstar vibes. Let your creativity shine!

Throughout the day, children will take part in exciting maths activities and challenges. In addition, pupils will battle it out with other classes and even take on their teachers! We are looking forward to seeing who will come out victorious! We hope you will agree that this is a fantastic way to build confidence in maths while having loads of fun.

Number Day is not just about numbers - it’s about making a difference. By joining in, we’re supporting the NSPCC and helping them continue their vital work protecting children across the UK.  To support their important work, we are asking for a donation of £1 per family. Please send pupils in with their £1  to be handed to their teacher on the day.

So, get your Rockstar outfit ready, warm up those times tables, and prepare to battle it out on TTRS. Let the best rocker win.

We can’t wait to see our school full of Times Table Rockstars!
